TV Review and gallery: Britain’s Got Talent first semi final

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

It was a night of pyrotechnics and performances, as well as egos as the first semi final of Britain’s Got Talent took place last night.
Amanda, Michael and David were joined by king Simon Cowell who walked on to Superman music to cast his beady eye on the first contestants.
Although he liked fire entertainment group Girls Roc, the public didn’t agree and the girls were sent home, not before securing a place to perform at Simon’s birthday and without a few bitter words of “the girls never do well.”

If anyone should have been bitter however it should have been Joe, who cycled his way into the top three, only to lose a place in the final to pianist Paul after the four judges took the vore to deadlock – a first in BGT apparently.

Joining him in the final was the 12-year-old Justin Bieber lookalike who received rave reviews from the judges for his performance of Adele’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’ on the ITV1 show.

Others booted off the show was Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonator Stuart Arnold and grandaughter and grandad singing duo Ted and Grace, frankly we don’t think Grace will be going round to see her grandad for tea anymore after she failed to use him to get her fame. In fact her plan may have backfired completely with all the judges saying they’d like to see more of the 93 year old, rather than what we think was a bad Gwen Stefani wannabe.

Meanwhile, hosts Ant and Dec took the opportunity to poke fun at Simon, who reportedly axed Cheryl Cole from the US version of ‘The X Factor’ because of her strong Geordie accent.

They joked: “Before we start Simon, can you understand our accents OK?”

The red-faced TV boss brushed off the comment, saying: “Why, has something happened? Sorry I’ve been away.”

Just another BGT night.

BAFTA TV awards 2011: The winners and red carpet dresses

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

It was a night of shock, surprise and glam frocks with TV’s elite turning up for the Television BAFTA awards.

The Only way is Essex caused a huge scene picking up the YouTube audience award, however, there was nothing award winning about the cast’s outfits. Amy Childs opted for an over the top gold and lace gypsy wedding style frock, which made her look more mismatched fairy rather than fashionable lady, while her co-stars Lydia Rose Bright and Lauren Goodgear added some Essex bling with their crystal encrusted frocks.

Over on the awards side Martin Freeman and Steve Coogan got rewards for their performances in Sherlock and The Trip, while The Cube also beat the X Factor to scoop the
award for Entertainment programme. The leading actor award went to Daniel Rigby, for Eric And Ernie, while Vicky McClure scooped the leading actress award for This Is England ’86.

Soaps got a look in too with  the single drama award going to The Road to Coronation Street
while Eastenders got Continuing drama.

In the Drama series Sherlock scooped the award while Any Human Heart got the Drama serial. And there was a lovely moment when Sir Trevor McDonald received the Bafta fellowship, the well loved newsreader having a deserved moment in the limelight.

Over in the fashion stakes, leading the black dress crowd was Jessie Wallace who looked elegant in a 50s style frock, while Daisy Lowe also stood out with her crochet  long frock.  Cat Deeley also made an impression with a backless lace detail dress, while Alex Kingston played it simple with a strapless frock, which she accessorised with a turquoise necklace.

Elsewhere Sheridan Smith went for on-trend pink with a pale coloured fishtail frock, while  Gillian Anderson went for a darker hue of this trend for her appearance.

See the gallery below for the red carpet looks.

Eurovision song contest review and gallery

Monday, May 16th, 2011

So we sat down on Saturday night with our list of drinking games in preparation for the annual bizarre costumes, out of tune songs and downright weird people.

That’s right it was time for the Eurovision song contest. We’re not sure whether it was the shots giving us ear goggles but we have to admit as the night went on, the acts got better. Blue managed to sing in tune for at least the second part of the song, while Austria’s 19 year old sang like an angel – even if the song was a bit Disney. Germany’s Lena also put on a good act as well as Estonia.

Acts that made us cringe had to be Greece, sorry we didn’t get the whole rap and then sombre singing as well as Iceland, whose band members looked like Boyzone and Westlife’s obese children.

However, the biggest surprise of the night was not the fact that Jedward sang – if you can call it that – out of tune, or the moans of “political voting” by the UK, it was in fact that the winners of this addictive contest was Azerbaijan. Now that was worth drinking about.

Dancing on Ice 2011: Chloe Madeley is reportedly dating Sam Attwater.

Monday, April 4th, 2011

No drinking for Chloe Madeley, pictured above

Chloe Madeley is reportedly dating Sam Attwater.

The 23-year-old presenter has called time on her five-month romance with Glenn Crickmar and she and her fellow ‘Dancing On Ice’ finalist are now regarded as “an item” by those working on the show’s live tour.

A source said: “They clicked straight away and became good friends – but one thing has led to another and they are now regarded as an item by the cast and crew on ‘Dancing On Ice’.”

Chloe and 24-year-old Sam – who was romancing his professional partner Brianne Delcourt earlier this year – are said to be openly affectionate with one another and stunned onlookers in Sheffield, where they are currently rehearsing for the tour, with their intimate behaviour.

Speaking about a trip to the Lyceum Theatre to see ‘Avenue Q’ on Wednesday (30.03.11), the insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “At this point they didn’t really care who on the show saw them as they walked along the street arm-in-arm. We were quite shocked they were being so open about it but no one was surprised to find out they’d finally got it together.”

The following day, the couple visited a nearby bar with fellow competitors including Laura Hamilton and Denise Welch, yet Sam and Chloe left without the rest of their group.

A source said: “Sam waved goodbye to everyone and led Chloe out of the bar and back to the hotel. They then walked off down the street arm-in-arm, with Chloe resting her head on his chest. It was really sweet.”

After winning the contest last week, Sam later took to his twitter page to show off a picture of a balloon given to him by Chloe.

A message written on the gift said: “Dear Sam. ¬CONGRATULATIONS. Hope you are proud of yourself after you ruined my lips. Love Chloe x Chlam Forever.”

A spokesperson for Chloe confirmed she and Glenn have ended their relationship.

The National Television Awards: Winners

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Eastenders sweeped the board at last night’s National Television Awards.
Not only did the show beat the likes of Corrie and Emmerdale to scoop up the best serial drama award, but it’s cast also gained recognition. Ricky Norwood, AKA Fat Boy, grabbed the best newcomer award, while Lacey Turner got the  best soap performance award for her role as Stacey Branning.

Elsewhere, the Inbetweeners gained the Digital Choice Award, while David Jason humbly accepted the outstanding drama award for his performance in Frost.

Stacey Solomon accepted the I’m a Celebrity award for Popular Entertainment Programme, and Top Gear was given the most popular factual programme prize.

However, it was Simon Cowell who really made the awards a night to remember. Upon scooping the Best Talent Show Award for the X Factor, he proceeded to dedicate it  to his sick friend and producer of the show.
