As BBC2 prepares to roll out their new series Wonders Of Life, it has released an amazing trailer for the show.
The 5-part programme will follow Professor Brian Cox as he travels the globe exploring the story of life on Earth through physics. The programme is a remarkable co-production with Chinese broadcaster CCTV-9, the first time the BBC science unit has teamed up with the state-run channel.
The trailer runs for 3½ minutes and features clips from the programme soundtracked by an updated version of ‘The Universe Song’ from Monty Python’s film The Meaning Of Life. It features Python Eric Idle (who wrote the song) singing new lyrics about the history of the universe.
Wonders Of Life starts in January 2013, you can see the trailer below.
After his superb 3-part comedy series Black Mirror aired earlier this year, screenwriter Charlie Brooker returns with cop comedy ‘A Touch Of Cloth’, which will air on Sky 1 in August.
The show stars John Hannah and former Corrie star Suranne Jones and id described by Brooker as ‘just Airplane-style daftness”
He continued: The inspiration there was just to entertain, I co-wrote the pilot in 2003, something like that. Then we adapted it and changed it a lot. So that’s always been something that I’ve wanted to do – something just daft.”
I absolutely loved the first trailer released by the BBC for the Extras Christmas special featuring stars such as Clive Owen and George Michael. Now a second has reached the Internet, with Gervais hitting up the five multi-millionaire entrepreneurs that populate the Dragon’s Den to help finance his comedy show. In the spoofy clip, Gervais, nervous like all who enter the Den, makes his business pitch to the listening James Caan, Deborah Meaden, Peter Jones, Theo Paphitis and Duncan Bannatyne before being suitably interrogated.
As always, Gervais’ main target for comedy is himself with Paphitis labelling him “a short little ego-maniac” while Peter Jones laments his unkempt appearance: “What an untidy messy little git!” When asked why he needs the sought after cash injection, Gervais responds: “Catering, we do go over on the catering budget.” To catch the trailer and whet your appetite for the Extras Christmas extravaganza (it’s not actually billed so exuberantly, I just wanted to use the word extravaganza), click on the link.
For some, the idea of watching Russell Brand witter on about anything that takes his foppish fancy is about as appealing as being serenaded by June Sarpong with a sore throat (that raspy tone, that foghorn cackle – it makes the hairs on the back of my neck rise just thinking about it), but for those who, like me, enjoy the inane comic ramblings of the darkly-dressed dandy, tonight could be the start of something great. Brand’s new show sees him given a stage, a microphone, an audience and the chance to muse on any topic that he chooses. He kicks things off with talk of childhood and adolescence and in the nightly instalments will also milk the comic potential of science, love, crime and school sports days.
Stand-up comedy seems to be widely ignored by the primary channels these days, so it will be interesting to see if there is an audience for this over the scheduled six consecutive nights. Will Russell have found the perfect vehicle for his talents or will it be self-indulgent drivel? Here’s a sneak peak at the jokes to see if they have your fancy tickled or not.
I love a period romp, all the huge frocks that don’t fit through doors properly, the shouting in ye olde English and the stomping around in castles – fantastic. And so I have been all excitement at the arrival of The Tudors on these shores. The show, described by the creator Michael Hirst “as more a soap opera than a documentary”, stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry VIII and promises lots of bodice-ripping sauciness, violence and political positioning for power. As well as Rhys Meyers (from Mission Impossible III and those annoying Hugo Boss adverts) are names such as Jeremy Northam as Sir Thomas More and Jurassic Park fave Sam Neill as Cardinal Wolsey.
The show has found an audience in the States and has already been commissioned for a second season. This trailer come courtesy of the American network Showtime and suggests a sexiness to Henry VIII that I was never taught in history lessons – shame, I might have paid a bit more attention.
Since Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant announced that the Christmas special for Extras would be the sitcom’s swansong, it seems like every celebrity from George Michael to David Tennant has bagged a role in it. And now with the release of the show’s trailer, we can see which familiar faces are going to pop up in the festive frolics, alongside regulars like Barry to get us chuckling.
As the show will be one of the undoubted heavy-hitters of the Beeb’s Christmas line-up, they are doing all they can to keep the trailer from appearing on sites such as YouTube. Instead, to get your first look at Clive Owen turning his nose up at Maggie Jacob’s (Ashley Jensen) prostitute or a mocked manly hug, follow the link here. Enjoy!
We’ve grown accustomed to having to wait a while for our US imports here in Britain, but now with Prison Break airing on Sky One only a week after its American transmission, things could be gradually changing. Another happy example is that of Channel 4’s hit comedy/ drama Ugly Betty. The second season is set to debut to US audience’s tomorrow night, while we’ll get to enjoy Betty Suarez’s funny frolics at Mode magazine just eight days later on Friday 5th October.
And with this much anticipated return to our TV screens, how will the suspenseful cliff-hangers from season one be resolved? Will Alexis and Daniel survive their car crash? Did Santos die from his gun-shot wound and has Henry left Betty forever? Just check out this new trailer airing on Channel 4 to get your appetite truly whetted. I can’t wait!
Sky One have been advertising it since the dawn of time (or a month – same deal) and now we are but days away from Prison Break, series three. The drama picks up with Michael, T-Bag (boo hiss), Bellick and Mahone back inside Panama’s Sona Prison, which is so nasty that even the guards won’t go inside. Michael’s brother Lincoln and former cellmate Sucre are desperately trying to help free our hero from the outside, while there is also a juicy political conspiracy storyline.
Fans without satellite TV will be sad to miss out on their favourite, but here is one of Sky One’s many trailers for the new season to help keep everyone in the loop.
I know we’ve already given you lucky folk one sneaky peak at season two of Heroes, but here’s another one. This is from Canadian TV and unlike the American version is less concept, more action. As per the original trailer – be warned if you are still watching Claire, Nathan, Hiro and co. kick ass on BBC2 as this will definitely spoil plots for you. For the rest of you – be similarly cautioned. If Simon Bates still did those ratings warnings before a film, I would wheel him out now, as I don’t want to be the one to ruin your future viewing pleasure. But for you eager beaver fans – check out the trailer and let us know what you think.
It’s that time of year when TV stations are promoting all of their new shows for the autumn. Will the new programmes find an audience, will returning series remain well-liked and why are we always so far behind the Americans here in the UK? One favourite here at Scoop towers is Heroes, the sci-fi phenomenon which is proving popular on BBC2 after initially airing on the Sci-Fi Channel. Those lucky folk in the US are already gearing up for the show’s return to TV later in the month and here at the Scoop we bring you the trailer for this new season.
For those of you savouring your first few bites of Heroes – be warned the trailer might spoil upcoming plot details for you. But for those of you who have already feasted on the whole buffet of season one – enjoy the trailer and let us know what you think. Cryptic gibberish or exciting preview? Leave a comment and let the debate begin.
I have only just finished smirking at the ludicrous promotional picture for season four of Desperate Housewives when along comes a new trailer to wipe that wry smile off my face. Now I am no longer faintly mocking but am enjoying a seriously energetic rib-tickling. In this new trailer from American network ABC, the five leading ladies from Wisteria Lane pout and vamp it up to a Jennifer Lopez soundtrack.
The housewives seem to have substituted clothes for make-up, with Teri Hatcher the main culprit. Why the absence of clothing ladies? Is DH just too damned hot for such frivolities? DH seems to become more and more like the shoulder-padded soaps of the 80’s with all the lip-gloss and smudgy camerawork, still I suppose it takes Nicollette Sheridan back to her roots. If ever I’m feeling a little gloomy, the clip will be sure to lift my spirits.
Heroes won’t just be available on your TV set soon, with Ubisoft to make a video game based on the popular sci-fi show. The game will feature all the characters, locations and storylines that us fans love and cherish and could even be out by the end of next year. It will be available on all next-generation formats as well as PC and will be a third-person action extravaganza (okay, so I’m not sure about the ‘extravaganza’ part, but for nerdy geeks in love with cheerleader Claire Bennet, this could be all their dream fantasies fulfilled.) The programme creator, Tim Kring, is working on his sales pitch: “We’re very excited to be making the ‘Heroes’ video game with Ubisoft. Time and again, Ubisoft has proven they can turn licensed properties into fantastic games.”
And it won’t just be the Heroes game keeping all at Ubisoft busy, with a Lost game also in the works. A naughty teaser trailer for Lost: The Video Game will premiere at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con International. The game could be on shelves as early as Spring 2008 and will allow gamers to play a passenger that interacts with the existing characters on the ill-fated flight Oceanic 815. Such techie delights to fog up the spectacles of the most nerdy fans, these games are sure to be huge money-spinners for all involved.
