Coronation Street spoiler: Audrey Roberts collapses

Audrey with transvestite Marc/Marcia played by Andrew Hall

Coronation Street’s Audrey Roberts will be rushed to hospital after she collapses on the cobbles. Concerned onlookers immediately call 999 after the gossipy hairdresser passes out in the street and an ambulance is sent to rush her the nearest hospital.

However, it turns out the health scare just a false alarm as medics reveal Audrey – played by Sue Nicholls – has just got high blood pressure and is told she must give up her beloved booze for good, according to the Daily Star newspaper.

It’s been a busy few months for Audrey after Coronation Street bosses recently axed her cross-dressing lover (pictured right).

The controversial character – played by Andrew Hall – first appeared in the ITV1 soap at the beginning of the year as transvestite Marc Selby, better-known for his gruff-voiced, stiletto-wearing alter-ago, Marcia.

However, after the unusual storyline failed to strike a chord with Corrie viewers, TV chiefs admitted they may have made a mistake with the character’s introduction.

A source said: “The plot hasn’t been for everyone but we’re glad we tackled the issue.”

Marc’s shock exit left pensioner Audrey devastated after a series of dramatic twists and turns forced him to leave Weatherfield for good.

Rentaghost is to be given a Hollywood makeover

So apparently Rentaghost is set to get the Hollywood treatment, with Ben Stiller – star of Meet the Parents and Zoolander – in the lead role (yes I know it sounds crazy, but it’s true).

For those who can’t remember (or who are too young)  the cult 1970s TV series was basically about a temping agency run by the recently deceased Mr Mumford who tried to get work for ghosts.

Although originally commissioned for just five shows, 58 episodes and a Christmas special followed with audiences peaking at an astonishing 10 million.

The series starred Sue Nicholls (best known as Corrie’s Audrey Roberts) as Nadia Popov, a ghost who teleported when she sneezed. Other characters included Hazel the McWitch and pantomime horse Dobbin.

But which are the other shows of the 1970s which should be given the Hollywood makeover. Here we give our Top 5 (and by the way Here Come The Double Deckers and Pipkins didn’t make the cut, but it was a close run thing).

Mr Benn

The classic 1970s series about a bowler-hatted gentleman who walks into a shop, gets changed into a fancy dress costume and enters a whole new world via a magic door. Amazingly only 12 episodes were ever made. Hollywood could definitely give it a makeover with loads of CGI showing Mr Benn with dinosaurs and dragons. But who could play Mr Benn? Hugh Grant maybe or perhaps more of an action hero like Daniel Craig or Hugh Jackman.
