Alesha Dixon is hoping for a romance on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.
The 32-year-old singer – who is a judge on the BBC One show – thinks there will be a relationship between at least one celebrity and their professional dance partner like in other years because they spend so much time together.
She told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “I’m sure there will be a romance because there has been every year. The dancing is so intense and passionate it just happens.
“I don’t know who it will be but I’d bet money that there is some sort of affair. You spend so much time with each other it always seems to happen.
“The thing is, I don’t think anyone is single so that could make an interesting show.”
Last year’s winner Kara Tointon, Ali Bastian, Matt Di Angelo and Joe Calzaghe are just a few of the celebrities to have fallen for their partner in previous series.
However, Alesha doesn’t think Kara – who is still dating Artem Chigvinstev – has anything to worry about even though he is dancing with sexy Holly Valance.
She said: “People are saying Holly and Artem look great together but I don’t think it will be them. Artem is so loved-up with Kara and Holly has her billionaire boyfriend so she won’t be going anywhere.
“But it will still be hard for all the celebs’ partners to watch.”

Masood Ahmed is to declare his love for Jane Beale in ‘EastEnders’.
As both character’s marriages slowly disintegrate in the BBC One soap, the restaurant owner finally opens up about his true feelings.
However, while spilling the beans on the matters of his heart, Maood is unaware he and Jane are being watched from afar by his love rival Yusef Khan, the ex-husband of his wife Zainab.
Jane (Laurie Brett) – who is married to Walford wimp Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) – feels the same way about Masood and asks him to run away with her, but is left dejected after he tells her they can never be together despite their feelings.
Nitin Ganatra, who plays the lovelorn husband, said: “Masood almost contemplates it. He just tells Jane that he loves her and thinks she’s gorgeous, but he can’t be with her. It’s very sad and romantic. Masood and Zainab have been married for almost 30 years, but he’s had this special attraction to Jane ever since they first met.”
Meanwhile, Zainab (Nina Wadia) – who is the mother of Masood’s three grown-up children – has been having her own doubts about their marriage after her feelings for Yusef (Ace Bhatti) return when she learns he saved her life in a fire in Pakistan.
Nitin added to Inside Soap magazine: “Masood asks Zainab if she chose the right man and she can’t answer, which adds to his insecurities. It sows seeds of doubt. He can’t help but feel as though he is losing his wife, and that she’s falling back in love with Yusef.
“Masood is very worried that Zainab is going to leave him.”

I hate always starting these reviews negatively, but I actually forgot about Dancing With the Stars this week and my husband had to remind me (“Isn’t your shit on in a minute?”). I wish I knew what was missing, but it just doesn’t have the magic of previous seasons. I noticed last night that I’m always surprised when the last dance has been danced. I think I’m waiting for someone really special who never comes.

I know I keep going on about how I don’t look forward to this season of Dancing With the Stars the way I did previous seasons, so I won’t say it again this week, I’ll just launch straight into it. There was more variety in the dances this week because it was time for the contestants to do one of the dances they hadn’t yet attempted. Also, it was time for their first group dance.

I never would have thought that I could have too much Dancing With the Stars, but this week, when I saw that the combined show and results show only totalled two hours and fifteen minutes I was relieved. And it – along with a couple of other things – did actually make a big difference to my enjoyment of the show. A good difference.

Now that the nights are getting colder and darker, the TV networks are bringing out their winter heavyweights, which traditionally have included literary adaptations. On Monday night, BBC4 welcomed John Cleland’s saucy Fanny Hill while tonight will see ITV1 strive to reinvent Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for a modern audience. And so to celebrate these new interpretations of classic novels, TV Scoop brings you our top ten literary adaptations.
Note how keen I am to stress that the source of these television gems must be those heavy things that fill libraries: books. A period drama, such as Rome or Band of Brothers, is keen to set the piece in a bygone era, but is not bound (ho!) to a plot by the work of a novelist. Other conditions of the list include no long-running serials (Jeeves and Wooster), no collective works of an author (Marple) and no, repeat no Catherine Cookson. The adherence to the author’s original work is all too often not what it should be, but any attempts to introduce the likes of Elizabeth Bennet, Rochester and Flora Poste to a mass audience must always be a good thing. And so on to the top ten…

Last week, when I sat down to watch the fantastic Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip currently hidden away on More4, I was bowled over by a scene of great writing, powerful acting and all-round perfection. The scene in question was Danny Tripp’s (Bradley Whitford – 48 today, happy b’day Brad!) admission of love for Jordan McDeere (Amanda Peet.)
The revelation of emotion was touchingly portrayed and rang true as the passion of a world-weary middle-aged man rather than the soppy gushings of a naïve teenager. The tender moment is yet to crop up on YouTube for me to best demonstrate the impact of it, but here are Danny’s lines (just imagine them being spoken by Bradley.) “I’ve been married twice before, and I’m a recovering cocaine addict, and I know that’s no woman’s dream of a man, or a father. Nonetheless, I believe I’m falling in love with you. If you want to run, I understand, but you better get a good head start because I’m coming for you, Jordan.” Isn’t that just amazing?

Did anyone actually watch the Max Beesley love-triangle saga Talk To Me screened back in May? I saw the adverts and purposefully avoided the ITV drama by going out, washing my hair, re-arranging my sock drawer – anything to prevent accidentally knocking the remote control and having to endure the desperately risqué show. Turns out I wasn’t the only one to be deterred by its advertising campaign, with the Advertising Standards Authority revealing that it sparked a number of complaints.
It seems it was the racy slogans featured on posters along with the three primary characters that upset people, with one reading: ‘My best friend and my life. She’s screwed them both’ while the other offending item chirped: ‘I would do anything for my best friend, including his wife.’ ITV have defended the billboards claiming they were intended to “set up the love triangle and portray the desire felt by the main protagonist.” The complaints were not upheld as the images themselves were not sexually explicit. Maybe ITV will save that for series two.

After the mid-season high of the ferry crash saga, Grey’s Anatomy seemed to suffer a bit of a low last night. It had invested so much energy and intensity into the three episode story-line that it felt a bit tired and exhausted afterwards, as though it needed to put its feet up and have a nice sit down. Sadly for us, the show limped its way through a rather slow and sorry hour that saw me roll my eyes in annoyance on more than one occasion.
Now that her mother is no more, Meredith began to accept her other side of the family: sad-sack dad Thatcher and perky step-mum Susan. The uncomfortable attempts at family bonding were dreary and non-eventful, a pale shadow of the emotionally fraught relationship between Meredith and mother Ellis. Why they killed off this character I don’t really understand. Did they think they had played it for all dramatic possibilities or did they simply want to give Meredith a whole new set of domestic dilemmas? Regardless, the new alternative is going to have to pick up speed it if hopes to emulate any of the former relationship’s intrigue.

I was quite prepared that my hour spent last night watching new Living TV comedy/ drama Men in Trees would be time wasted. Recent new US shows that I have taken a gamble on, such as Dirt, The New Adventures of Old Christine and Lovespring International disappointed, and as per the aftermath of a break-up I am now consciously avoiding them in fear of any ‘what happened to you, I thought you liked me?’ questioning.
Moreover the trailer was kinda cutesy and I feared that the Anne Heche star vehicle would be another one of those saccharine efforts that American TV just loves: the quirky girl (often quite clumsy) looking for love and finding it in the most unexpected of places. Well it turns out that I was pretty much right, but was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked. Am I turning soft in my old age or could there actually be something about Men in Trees?

It’s not often that I feel at all invested in the romantic shenanigans of celebrities. After all – what do they care what us mere mortals get up to? It’s odd then that I feel quite saddened at the news that House co-stars Jennifer Morrison (Dr. Allison Cameron) and Jesse Spencer (Dr. Robert Chase) have called off their engagement. I guess that through my overwhelming love of the show I had developed unprecedented soft-spots for the two doctors and had gotten all slushy and soppy. That’ll teach me.
The actors released a joint statement to People magazine saying that “after much consideration, we have decided not to get married. We are still very close, and we look forward to continuing to work together on House.” The nosey neighbour in me wants to know if they’ve broken up for good or are, to adopt the classic phrase “taking things slowly.” If they have entered Splitsville, working alongside each other could prove a bit weird especially considering the romantic ups and downs of the couple onscreen. Maybe the writers should just kill one of them off…

We recently took a look on the Scoop at programmes we considered were cancelled prematurely (see here). These beloved televisual treats are gone but not forgotten, and yet in their stead we get the same shows over and over again. If sometimes TV bosses are too quick to call time on a show, does it follow that they could also be too generous and indulgent with others?
They might claim they’re providing us with what we want, but there are many occasions when we find we no longer want it anymore. Shows lose their way, crucial cast members leave and what was once so fresh and exciting becomes tired and stale. It’s time to point fingers, take numbers and get heavy with those shows that over-stayed their welcome.

I love my Thursday night TV double whammy of House at 9 and then Grey’s Anatomy at 10. Such yummy medical goodness. But alas and alack, last night’s episode of House was number 19 out of 24, which means an unwanted disruption to my nice scheduling is looming at the end of August – boo hiss. Still, I am determined to enjoy it while I can and last night’s episode of House was another cracker.
I really don’t know how the House team keep it up – every episode (barring that silly one with the rape victim) is of the highest quality and if anything, it just seems to get better and better. Yes, the cases are involving and suspenseful but they’re just the sideshow to the complicated personal lives of the doctors at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. And with Cameron having dumped Chase last week, there seemed to be an unprecedented outbreak of romantic entanglements.
