Olly Murs: I’d be gay if I didn’t fancy Caroline

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Olly Murs would have to be “gay” not to fancy Caroline Flack.  The Xtra Factor presenter – who co-hosts the ITV2 spin-off show alongside Caroline Flack – explained while he has a crush on Caroline, he is “100 per cent single and ready to mingle”.

Olly said: “I think Caroline and I have got to the point now where if we wanted to get together, we would. We’re just mates.

“Of course I fancy her, she’s a really good-looking girl – I’d be gay if I didn’t turn round and say she was gorgeous. I’m really lucky to be working with her. But I’m 100 per cent single. Single and ready to mingle! I’ve been single for a long time, I prefer it. It’s less stressful.”

Olly – who finished second in the 2009 series of The X Factor – thinks it’s a shame the show’s judges, Kelly Rowland, Tulisa Contostavlos, Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh, have become the “focal point” of the programme because of their arguments.

However, he insists the fall-out between Kelly and Tulisa over the Misha B bullying row was “nothing major” as former judges Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Simon Cowell were always squabbling.

Speaking at last night’s (03.11.11) Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women of the Year Awards 2011 at London’s Banqueting House, Olly said: “The judges have really been the focal point of this year’s show, which is a shame because there are some really talented contestants.

“We have to interview the judges straight after the show and it’s hard. First there was Misha-gate, then there was Kelly not being there last week. Of course there is going to be a bit of friction between them, everyone expected that, it’s nothing major.

“When I was on the show with Simon, Cheryl, Dannii and Louis it was exactly the same – they were always arguing. They’ve been friends throughout the entire X Factor experience, but now it’s the live shows and it’s time to get the ball rolling and get competitive.”

Comic Relief trek day two: Kara Tointon struggles and Lorraine Kelly finds a spider

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

A few weeks ago we reported that celebrities were braving the desert and snakes in a bid to raise money for Comic Relief.

And today we’ve had news on how they are getting on. Yesterday – Day two of the trek – saw temperatures rising to a scorching 102 degrees, taking its toll on the celebrity team. The heat became too much for Strictly star Kara Tointon who broke down after becoming exhausted and emotional.
Scott Mills and Peter White also found the going tough during the morning’s 13 kilometre walk in the barren Kaisut Desert, northern Kenya, as they both struggled with growing blisters on their feet.

However, it all began well for the intrepid team – Ronni Ancona, Craig David, Lorraine Kelly, Scott Mills, Olly Murs, Dermot O’Leary, Nadia Sawalha, Kara Tointon and Peter White – who began trekking at a good speed.

Craig said: “This is so much harder than I ever thought and the heat is beyond anything I could have imagined. Walking in the midday heat is so intense but knowing that we are raising money with each step is keeping me going.”

Two of the trekkers also had wee incidents in the night whilst nipping out to the loo in the pitch black. Nadia nearly fell down the long drop when the flimsy toilet seat frame practically collapsed, while Lorraine got a fright in the night when her eyes adjusted and she spotted a spider the size of a hand.

Olly said: “Yesterday was tough but it is harder than ever today and I’ve got the feeling that’s the way this is going to go. Each day is getting harder than the last as we get further and further into the desert.”

With the X-Factor, I’m a Celebrity and other reality shows in full force we decided that it was time to have a look back at the successes of these TV shows, and there’s been a few.

Susan Boyle, Myleene Klass and Cheryl Cole are just a few of the reality show contestants who now have successful careers and earn more money than the average Joe. We’ve put together the top 20 and listed below some of the earnings…. now where did we put that X-Factor application form….

Myleene Klass - £7.5 million. Winning Popstars in 2001 with the manufactured band Hear’Say was Myleene’s first stab at fame and fortune- but it didn’t last. Her career as a classical musician and a TV and radio presenter staggered along until she appeared in I’m A Celebrity- Get Me out of Here in 2006- when her bikini showers wowed the nation. She has gone on to major success as a presenter on the One Show, Last Choir Standing, and Ten Years Younger, as well as hosting two radio shows. But her highest profile has been her M&S ad campaign, and although the credit crunch has seen her contract slashed from £1 million a year to £750,000, it’s still a nice little earner. Add on her Pantene ads, and her contract with Mothercare for her own baby clothes range.
