Jason Manford: Show Me The Funny jokes axed

Jason Manford’s jokes were axed from Show Me The Funny due to legal reasons.  The comic’s new programme – which sees 10 wannabe stand-up comedians critiqued by Kate Copstick and Alan Davies – had a ten minute monologue cut from the beginning of the show as his current crop of jokes will feature in a DVD due to be released by Universal Pictures in November.

He explained: “They edited all my bits out. It’s all very complicated.

“I’ve got a DVD coming out and I’m on tour, and a certain production company owns my sets.”

However, the 30-year-old funnyman insists he doesn’t mind seeing his jokes shelved as t provides more focus for the acts.

He added to The Sun newspaper: “I was basically the warm-up man before the proper comics.

“I could have given the whole ego thing, get the agent to ring them and say ‘Why didn’t you put some of my jokes on?’ but it’s not about me.”

Ratings for the programme slumped from 3.4 million at the beginning down to just 2.1 million by the end of the show.

The lacklustre performance was in stark contrast to BBC One’s show in the same 9pm Monday slot, crime drama ‘New Tricks’, which had 8.73 million viewers.

An insider said: “Producers will hope for a rapid improvement next week, or serious questions will be asked.”

What to watch this weekend

Friday, January 28th, 2011

This weekend sees the same programmes we’ve been talking about for the past few weeks in our weekend “what to watch.” So in this weeks weekend roundup we decided to scoot past the likes of Eastenders, Take Me Out and Dancing on Ice and focus on what’s actually different to feast our eyes on.

If you’ve forgiven Jason Manford for his Twit(ter) antics then tune into ITV at 9pm tonight for the Comedy Rocks with Jason Manford. Tonight’s guests include Tim Vine, Lee Nelson and regular guest Russell Kane who join Jason for the stand-up and sketch comedy show.

Ladies should also get their knickers at the ready as Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias, will also be on performing his latest single Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You). The more musically minded will also appreciate the tones of James Blunt, who undertakes house band duties for the evening.

If Jason and co don’t rock your boat, and you’ve finished and digested your dinner then
Embarrassing Bodies over on Channel 4 at 9pm may be a better option.

The new series welcomes back the usual medical crew who get paid, probably large amounts of money, to diagnose more people’s intimate problems at home and abroad – well to Fuengirola on Spain’s Costa del Sol.

This week the doctors meet a man with a protrusion he has kept hidden for 10 years. Dr Christian and Dr Pixie in the meantime hit the bars and clubs to find Brits who have received new rapid chlamydia tests.

Back in blighty we meet a woman with two wombs who wants to have a baby.

This brings us to Saturday night, which sees people fight for cash, and Davina McCall fight for her place in TV,  in Channel 4′s Million Pound Drop Live, which begins at 9pm.

If you don’t know how the programme works, the basic element goes like this: Contestants are given £1 million at the start and all they have to do is keep hold of it. However, there’s catches along the journey. They are challenged to place a quantity of money over trapdoors and answer a series of eight questions, but the wrong answer will lose them the amount they have set aside.

If after watching 35 minutes of this is sending you to sleep then Benidorm, which kicks off at the precise 9:35pm over on ITV, will get you going. Expect tanned shenanigans and comedy in this silly, but entertaining series in the sun.

And finally Sunday night. If you want to enhance those back to work blues then skip Dancing on Ice and click over to  , which starts at 10pm on BBC2.

The documentary follows agents of one of America’s largest investigative bodies, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as they track suspected US child-abusers overseas. Their investigations take them to Cambodia and also show the lengths paedophiles go to in terms of grooming and other antics.

There’s also tales of child prostitution and parents selling their children to this trade. An interesting and eye opening documentary if you have the stomach to watch this.

Jason Manford quits BBC’s One Show

Friday, November 19th, 2010

The Twitter curse has hit Jason Manford who has now announced that he’s quitting his nearly new position on the One Show.

The comedian quit the BBC One show last night after admitting internet sex sessions with 12 girl fans on Twitter and video calls on Skype.

He announced his decision to leave in a statement, saying: “I have decided after careful consideration to stand back from The One Show to concentrate on my family.”

The BBC said later: “We have got nothing to say except that we accept Jason’s decision.”

His seat is still warm but that hasn’t stopped media speculation over who will be his replacement. So far favourites include Matt Baker, Chris Hollins and Chris Evans.
