Joanna Page to star in new sitcom The Gates

Joanna Page is to play a mother in a new sitcom. The 33-year-old actress, best known for playing the lead role in Gavin and Stacey, is to star in The Gates, a sitcom which follows the rivalries of different parents on the school run and has already been praised for her “incredible” performance.

Her co-star Tom Ellis revealed to the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “She is incredible, just such a sweet, kind-hearted woman.

“It’s sort of based on a family and I play the dad.”

While Joanna has landed the role in another sitcom, she has previously revealed she would like to turn her hand to acting in a soap.

The Welsh beauty would be particularly keen on joining her husband James Thornton in Emmerdale, in which he has played farmer John Barton for two years.

She said: “It could be quite good fun because James says it’s just gorgeous filming out in the fields.

“I’d be able to do a good northern accent if I was in Emmerdale.”

Joanna thinks James makes a convincing farmer and loves tuning in to watch his performances.

She added: “I think he was born to play the part of the farmer – he looks amazing and it’s nice having a really young family, who are all really attractive as well.

Why I love Ruth Jones

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

It’s not everyday that we get excited about a TV star but Ruth Jones is a starlet that gives us that warm fuzzy feeling.
Not only has this talented actress penned and starred in the 21st century’s most famous sitcom – Gavin and Stacey if you’ve been asleep for a few years – but she’s also shown that you don’t have to be a stick insect to be successful in the world of television.
In fact it’s her curves that have made the nation fall in love with her and her character Nessa.
Away from Gavin and Stacey, Ruth has successfully appeared on the likes of Would I lie to you, as well as a host of other comedy game shows. She’s also a regular alongside James Cordon on charity event sketches and although it would be unfair to draw comparisons, her style and sketch show contributions remind us very much of Dawn French.
To celebrate the starlet’s success we’ve put together a mini gallery.

Who’s the Daddy? TV’s Gavin and Stacey star James Corden becomes a father

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Comedian James Corden has become a Dad for the first time

Larger than life comedian James Corden has become a father for the first time. The Gavin and Stacey star and his fiancee Julia Carey – who he popped the question to on Christmas Day last year – welcomed a baby boy into the world at London’s Portland Hospital on Tuesday morning (22nd March).

According to The Sun newspaper, no further details of the early arrival have been revealed and the couple are yet to decide on a name for the tot.

When announcing the pregnancy, the 32-year-old actor-and-comedian admitted he and Julia – who he began dating in September 2009 after being introduced to the blonde beauty by James’ former flatmate, actor Dominic Cooper – were “absolutely over the moon” to be expecting a baby.

He said: “It’s true. We’re both absolutely over the moon. We really couldn’t be any happier.”

Meanwhile, friends of James – who previously dated Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps star Sheridan Smith – recently claimed the baby news couldn’t have come at a better time for the TV star, who is finally ready to settle down.

A source revealed: “He was a bit of a ladies’ man in the past but those days are well behind him. He’s at the right age to settle down – and has met the girl of his dreams. He can’t wait to be a dad. Having a baby is a proud moment for James.”

Best Christmas sitcom specials of all time

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

The family is all in for the week and you’re not looking forward to making small talk with old Aunty Mable on Christmas Day. However, if you’re not into presents or turkey, then one good thing to come out of the day are the sitcom “specials” here are my favourite ones of all time.

The My Family Christmas Special, which sees the Harper clan get trapped in a department store, win a holiday and end up in Buckingham palace. Yes it’s old but it always worth watching for a giggle.

Then there’s the Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special which sees the newlyweds’ respective clans gather in Billericay for the holidays, but Ango-Welsh relations quickly break down when Gavin reveals he may be moving to Cardiff to be with Stacey.

2008′s  Doctor Who Christmas Special – thanks to the avid reader who corrected us on the date -  saw David Tennant heading to Victorian London where he finds a very Dickensian villainness, Miss Hartigan (Dervla Kirwan), battles some Cybermen, and bumps into… another Doc (David Morrissey)! A double helping of tasty Timelords? Sounds like just what the Doctor ordered…

Wallace & Gromit: A Matter Of Loaf And Death
Wallace  and his trusty canine companion have turned their hands to baking! But Wallace gets more than he bargained for when he falls in love with a lady…..

The Royle Family Christmas Special
Despite swearing that 2006′s yuletide episode was to be the last, Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash  relented and penned a last hurrah for the coach potato clan. Anthony was sadly absent, babysitting the fruit of Denise and Dave’s loins. Which leaves just one question… who will make the tea?
Only Fools and Horses
You can’t beat an Only Fools and Horses Christmas special, whether it’s the one where the two become millionaires to the one where they loose it all. Good all round Christmas fun, which won’t leave you feeling like a Christmas plonker.

Telly Twitter: Whose Tweeting what from TV

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

twitter-TVSCOOP.jpgIt’s been a weird old week. Twitter has been dominated by that whole BNP business and now, Swine Flu. Of course though, for the most part, our TV celebrities have been blissfully unaware and chunnering on about this and that. In a way, it’s quite sweet. Obviously, it’s a bit depressing too. Still, they probably have swank dinner parties where they talk about politics right? They don’t need to vent on Twitter? Right? RIGHT? Anyway, let’s look at the highlights of the week’s Tweets.

TV Scoop’s Television Top 50 2008, Number Five: Gavin & Stacey (BBC)

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

TV Scoop Logo.jpgLike Will and Grace in, er, Will & Grace, the least interesting characters in Gavin & Stacey are indeed Gavin and Stacey (see also Ally McBeal, if you can remember that far back). Matthew Horne’s Gavin is pleasant enough, even if he does rely on Tim from The Office’s bemused face rather too much (got the same Lego Man hair too) and Stacey (Joanna Page) is a fairly typical nice-but-dim sitcom character, but the strength of this show is in the writing, the supporting characters and the wonderful cast.
