Star Nathaniel Parker upset at axing of BBC1 drama The Inspector Lynley Mysteries

Oh no – my Gran will be upset. The BBC has announced its decision to cancel detective yarn The Inspector Lynley Mysteries despite strong ratings throughout the show’s six year history. A BBC spokeswoman confirmed: “”The BBC is committed to making a broad range of varied and ambitious drama. Part of this is achieved by thinking of new and exciting ways of refreshing the schedules each year. But in order to achieve this we do have to move on from some pieces like the Inspector Lynley Mysteries in order to allow new work to come through.”

Inspector Lynley himself, otherwise known as actor Nathaniel Parker is clearly a bit miffed at being handed his p45: “My initial reaction was: ‘But why?’ The ratings were always so good,” he told The Daily Mail. “You try to be resigned about these things, but I was a little bewildered … I wish they’d given us the chance to do a sign-off to tie up all the loose ends. Instead, it’s just been abandoned.”
