At least he’s taken it well. Daniel De Bourg, the most recent singing hopeful to be shown the door on ITV1’s The X Factor has spoken out against the show with claims of a conspiracy. Someone call Fox Mulder – the truth is out there! De Bourg ‘sang’ The Foundations’ ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’ and with cheesy dance moves and too many ‘whooos’ found himself suitably ejected from the contest. But why choose a song that clearly didn’t suit his voice and subject him to a routine that he didn’t look comfortable with? Over to Daniel.
“Brian Friedman had my whole ‘When Doves Cry’ routine choreographed – he’d hired the dancers and I was going to close the show this week, and then suddenly at 12am on Saturday I was given a CD of bloody ‘Build Me Up Buttercup.” But this wasn’t the first song change as prior to the Prince classic, De Bourg had planned to sing Damien Rice’s Cannonball: “After the end of the first week Louis came up to me just as I was leaving to get into the car, and said ‘we’ve changed the song’. It was absolutely not the right decision. I don’t know what was going on behind the scenes, it’s a big, big TV show.”
