A Beginner’s Guide To Helen Flanagan – All you need to know about the jungle babe

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

She may be currently ‘wowing’ the nation by wearing a series of very revealing bikinis and crying at the sight of anything that comes within 10 feet of her, but Helen Flanagan did, in fact, have a life before joining I’m A Celebrity Get me Out Of Here. Not a very varied one, but a life just the same.

Helen was born in 1989 in Bury and went to school until she was 10 years old. She then joined Coronation Street (in 2000) and continued to go to school while playing Kevin and Sally Webster’s daughter Rosie.

Rosie, you may remember, had been born in a taxi on Christmas Day. Helen was not, as far as we can ascertain, born in a taxi. But she might have been. We can’t rule it in or out, to be honest.

Nothing much then happened to Rosie (or Helen) for a few years until she suddenly turned into a schoolgirl minx and started seducing her teacher John Stape (this is Rosie now, not Helen. Again, as far as we know). Then, almost overnight, Rosie turned into complete flibbertigibbet. The producers seemed to take any opportunity to include scenes where Rosie needed to appear wearing just her underwear, she started trying to pull all the men in Weatherfield, wearing very skimpy outfits and behaving, generally, like a bit of a gold-digging slapper.

Helen, meanwhile, started dating footballer Scott Sinclair.

After Helen took a 3-month break from the soap in 2011 life started to imitate ‘art’ as Rosie was a fairly unsuccessful model in the show and Helen decided to quit Corrie to become a sort-of unsuccessful model. She has dedicate the last few months of her life to a couple of fairly low profile modelling jobs that involved her wearing very few clothes and tweeting pictures of herself wearing very few clothes.

And now she has returned to our screens! Wearing very few clothes and squawking. Welcome back, Helen!

Coronation Street’s Jack Duckworth dies. RIP Bill Tarmey

Friday, November 9th, 2012

One of Corrie’s greatest stars, the man who played Jack Duckworth for more than 30 years, Bill Tarmey has passed away.

Bill left the soap in 2010 to spend more time with his family after suffering with heart problems for many years. Details of his death are not yet available.

Bill Tarmey joined Corrie after a career as a singer and acting extra. Brow-beaten Jack and his battle-axe wife Vera swiftly became one of the greatest double acts in soap and beloved by the nation. The constant battles they had with wayward son Terry and combative yet loving relationship they shared ensured they stayed at the heart of the show right up until Liz Dawn, who played Vera, left in 2008. Bill stayed with the show for a couple of years after but Jack was killed off and he retired.

Goodbye, Bill. Creator of one of the funniest, most touching and universally-loved characters that British TV has seen.

Is former Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan suffering ‘frozen mouth syndrome’?

Monday, September 3rd, 2012

Ex Corrie ‘babe’ Helen Flanagan, who used to play Corrie ‘babe’ Rosie Webster, is apparently suffering from the highly amusing condition ‘frozen mouth syndrome’.

Helen, who hasn’t worked much since leaving Weatherfield, recently posted a series of pictures of herself on Twitter showing her trying to look like Madonna while standing in front of a chilly-looking bit of Welsh coast.

One Corrie ‘insider’ claims that the images show clear evidence that Helen’s mouth is now stuck in a painful looking pout and that this may well be permanent. The insider said: ‘Helen got so used to pouting for the camera while pretending to be a model on Corrie that she seems to have forgotten how to stop herself. We’re now well used to seeing pictures of her on Twitter wearing low cut tops but increasingly our eyes are being drawn reluctantly upwards to her face where this perma-pout has seemingly lodged itself. We wish her well with her recovery’.

Helen, her boyfriend Scott Thingy and her agent were all unavailable for comment so we’ll just assume that everything in this article is true, shall we?

Here are the pics:

Geoffrey Hughes, best known as Coronation Street’s Eddie Yeats, passes away

Geoffrey Hughes RIP

The actor behind one of the best-loved Coronation Street characters has passed away. Geoffrey Hughes, who played lovable rogue Eddie Yeats from 1974 to 1983, died over the weekend after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was 68.

Geoffrey brought a charm and likeability to the character of Eddie and his partnership with Stan and Hilda Ogden, with whom Eddie lodged, was responsible for some of the most memorable character comedy in the soap’s history. It was Eddie who created Hilda’s ‘muriel’ on which was mounted her famous flying ducks and he was always to be found trying to earn a dodgy crust by selling suspect goods while working as a window cleaner or bin man.

As well as Eddie Yeats, Geoffrey is remembered for his turns as Ounslow in Keeping Up Appearances, as Vernon Scripps in Heartbeat and as Twiggy in the Royle Family. In an early role he even provided the voice of Paul McCartney in the Yellow Submarine animated film.

Away from acting, Geoffrey owned a small holding, ran a wood supply company and was even made Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the Isle Of Wight, where he lived with his with Sue.

Here are some classic clips of Geoffrey in action.

Is a member of Royle-ty about to join Coronation Street?

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

There are rumours circulating that former Brookside and Royle Family star Sue Johnston may be about to sign a deal to appear in Corrie. Sue did appear in a few episodes of the soap in a minor role in the 1980’s before she landed the role of Sheila Grant in Brookie but it looks like she may be heading to Weatherfield to play Rovers landlady Stella Price’s mum.Sue Johnston

She is probably best known for playing Barbara in the sitcom The Royle Family, something that apparently excited this ‘Corrie insider’: “Everyone is thrilled. She’s a brilliant actress. We can’t wait to have a member of the Royle Family walking down those famous cobbles and enjoying a drink in the Rovers.”

If it happens it would mean, of course, that the Rovers will be housing a former Eastender (Michelle Collins), a former Emmerdale star (Catherine Tyldesley) and Sue is an ex-Brooksider. Is it slowly turning from a back street Manchester boozer into a soap star refuge?

Coronation Street: Michelle Collins to become Rovers Return landlady

Monday, December 19th, 2011

Michelle Collins’ Coronation Street’character, Stella Price, is set to become the landlady of the Rovers Return.

The actress will buy the pub after current owner Steve (Simon Gregson) puts it up for sale to ease his debt problems, and she admits she is “quite excited” to become the manager of the iconic drinking establishment.

She said: “I’ve had my name above the door for quite a while now as manager, but now she’s actually going to own it. They struggle to get the money together to get a mortgage. And they’re turned down by a few people because they’re ‘too old’. But then you’ll see what happens. It’s quite exciting, being the owner of The Rovers.”

She is particularly looking forward to developing her character – who joined the soap this year amid much criticism about her Mancunian accent – and hopefully turning her into another memorable owner of the pub.

She added: “I’d love to create another iconic character. I think Stella seems to be a bit like the Mother Teresa of ‘Corrie’. Suddenly she’s everybody’s agony aunt.

“They’re injecting a little bit of steeliness into her.”

Coronation Street’s Michael Le Vell arrested for sex offences – strenuously denies claims

Thursday, October 6th, 2011
Several news sources are claiming this morning that Corrie star Michael Le Vell, who plays Weatherfield mechanic Kevin Webster, has been arrested by police on suspicion of sexually abusing a schoolgirl.

KEVIN WEBSTER.JPGBoth the Sun and Mirror newspapers say that Le Vell, 46, was taken from his home in Greater Manchester and questioned for 8 hours over allegations made by a teenage girl. He vigorously denies any wrongdoing. He has been released on bail.

Police said in a statement: “A 46-year-old man from Hale has been arrested on suspicion of a historic sexual offence. He has been bailed pending inquiries.”

In a statement this morning, Michael Le Vell said: “I strenuously deny these allegations and will do everything in my power to prove my innocence.”

Le Vell has played motor mechanic Webster for the past 28 year and his character, who has been hit by scandals over the years, has been involved in some of Corrie’s most-watched episodes.

But two years ago even Le Vell drew a strong line against his character having an affair while screen wife Sally Webster – played by Sally Dynevor – was suffering cancer.

He told producers he would quit the show if the affair wasn’t ended.

One source told The Mirror: “Michael has been really bowled over by these accusations. It has knocked him for six.

“He is a devoted family man, and this has made his world fall apart.

“He leads a quiet life and doesn’t court the celebrity lifestyle.

” He is determined to carry on working and to clear his name. But at the moment his mind is scrambled. ”

Coronation Street spoiler! Ken Barlow left for dead after attack

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Coronation Street’s Ken Barlow is to be left for dead after being viciously attacked by his own grandson.

The trusting former teacher – played by Bill Roache – will be devastated to discover James, the long-lost grandson on which he doted, has forged his signature and taken out a huge loan against his home.

Discovering he could lose the house that has been his since the 70s if he fails to keep up the extortionate repayments put upon him thanks to James’ midemeanour, Ken rages: “How could you do it?

“You come into my house as a guest, as my grandson, as my own flesh and blood – and then set about robbing my family of everything we’ve ever worked for. You’re nothing but a cheap conman, a two-bit crook!”

A furious James replies: “I’d rather be a crook than a doddering old hypocrite like you.”

However, when Ken attempts to call the police to tell them James, who moved in with the Barlows while he worked for a nearby homeless charity, has attempted to rob him he delivers a brutal blow to his grandfather and knocks him to the floor.

In a moment of panic James – played by Bill’s real-life son James – flees the house, leaving devastated Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) to discover her beloved husband fighting for his life.

An insider told The Sun newspaper: “It’ll be weird for James watching himself punching his dad, but they’re gripping scenes.”

‘Coronation Street’ actress Betty Driver rushed to hospital.

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

‘Coronation Street’ actress Betty Driver has been rushed to hospital.

The 90-year-old veteran star – who plays hotpot-loving Betty Williams in the ITV1 soap – was admitted earlier in the week, and is believed to be suffering from pneumonia.

An insider told The Sun newspaper: “Obviously we are all worried because Betty is such a huge part of the show. She’s an absolute trouper and still turns up for work and puts in a flawless performance.

“We’ve all sent out love and best wishes and are hoping for the best.”

A ‘Corrie’ spokesperson added: “Betty has been taken to hospital. We are all wishing her a speedy recovery.”

With Betty – who has been a central feature of ‘Coronation Street’ for the past 42 years – due to be filming scenes this week, producers have had to frantically re-write scripts to account for her unexpected absence.

However, the actress has previously admitted she loves her role in the soap so much that she is prepared to die on the cobbles.

She said: “I love working on the Street because everyone on it is like my family. I don’t want to leave at all – I want to die on set.”

Contains Spoiler! Coronation Street’s Graeme falls for Tina’s best friend Xin

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Graeme Procter (played by Craig Gazey) falls for Tina's best friend, Xin

Tina McIntyre is set to be heartbroken when she walks in and finds Xin locking lips with her boyfriend, Graeme Proctor in Coronation Street.

While Graeme was originally pressured by Tina (Michelle Keegan) into marrying Xin to guarantee her a visa to stay in the country, viewers now see his feelings grow increasingly genuine for the Chinese beauty.

When Xin announces she is going to leave the cobbles so Graeme and Tina can be a proper couple again, he realises he can’t bear the thought of Xin not being in his life and the pair share a passionate smooch. Xin tells him: “Tina’s my best friend and I can’t deceive her. I’ll give you till tomorrow to decide whether it’s Tina or me.”

Unfortunately, Graeme doesn’t get the opportunity to think for too long about his true feelings when his gorgeous girlfriend walks in and is devastated to find the pair in a passionate embrace.

The butcher tells Tina: “I’m sorry Tina, but Xin and I love each other and want to be together forever.”

Feisty Tina is determined to get her revenge on the cheating couple and as well as threatening to tell the authorities about their faux romance, sets out to bed new Weatherfield womaniser Tommy Duckworth (Chris Fountain).

Corrie spoiler!Chesney Battersby-Brown will face a race against time to stop his girlfriend from Katy having an abortion.

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Coronation Street’s Chesney Battersby-Brown will face a race against time to stop his girlfriend from Katy having an abortion.

Although the flame-haired teenager – played by Sam Aston – and his gorgeous girlfriend Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote) are delighted to be expecting a baby, Katy’s father convinces her to terminate the pregnancy by making her think Chesney is not around because he doesn’t want to be a dad.

However, unknown to them both, Chesney has actually been taken hostage by his sister Fiz’s (Jennie McAlpine) unstable husband John Stape (Graeme Hawley) and is bound and gagged in the cellar of Alan (Michael McStay) and Dorothy Hoyle (Jean Fergusson), who he also holds captive as secrets about the three deaths he is involved in begin to unravel.

Eventually Fiz manages to free Chesney and the other hostages but it is a race against the clock for him to make it to the abortion clinic in time to prevent Katy’s controlling father from getting his own way.

A show insider told the Daily Star newspaper: “John has caused the death and destruction of so many lives. Could Katy’s unborn baby be yet another victim? Or maybe Chesney will get to her in time?”

Corrie spoiler Alert! Max gets taken into care

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

‘Coronation Street’s Becky McDonald will be left heartbroken when nephew Max is taken into care by social services.

The mouthy blonde – played by Katherine Kelly – took on the care of Max with her husband Steve (Simon Gregson) after buying him from her conniving sister Kylie (Paula Lane) but her actions will come back to haunt her when she is reported and loses custody of the youngster.

Kylie’s fiance David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) thinks her son should live with them and when he discovers Becky’s deception, he is delighted as it gives him the perfect opportunity to get the boy back.

The loss of Max is a double blow for Becky and Steve as the barman gave up his daughter Amy to her real mother Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) in order to stop the killer revealing their deception over Max and Steve’s mother Liz is furious with them both.

Katherine explained recently: “Liz entirely blames Becky. The fact that she and Steve gave up his daughter to a murderer – Tracy – to save Becky’s nephew Max has been the elephant in the room. Liz shows them what they’ve done in black and white.

“It gets to the point where Becky is either going to break a glass in Liz’s face or walk out – so she has to go. Liz has driven her away and pushed to drink, so she gets wasted and reverts to type. Becky just wants to take the edge off everything.”

Amy Barlow to experience a day trip disaster when she goes missing in Blackpool.

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Coronation Street’s Amy Barlow is to experience a day trip disaster when she goes missing in Blackpool.

Estranged couple Steve McDonald and Tracy Barlow – played by Simon Gregson and Kate Ford – will treat the adorable tot to a day out at the beachside destination, but their dreams of a weekend of fun will be scuppered when Amy (Elle Mulvaney) vanishes while playing in the resort’s arcades.

After sneaking away from their nosy neighbours in Weatherfield to spend the day together as a family, treacherous Tracy and Steve – who is married to bolshie barmaid Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly) – will be terrified their youngster has been kidnapped.

While the warring duo are reunited with Amy in a matter of hours, the worst is yet to come when they realise their car has been towed away in the process.

However, when they accept they will have to spend the night in the bright lights of Blackpool, feisty femme fatale Tracy seizes the perfect opportunity to try it on with Steve.

A ‘Corrie’ insider told the Daily Star newspaper: “Steve’s left seriously sweating. He’s life to Becky about where he is and then he has to spend the night with Tracy, who tries to get him in her bed,

“If Becky finds out, there will be hell to pay.”

Gail Platt to stop shock Corrie wedding?

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

Coronation Street’s Gail Platt could be prepared to go to extreme lengths to prevent her son David’s shock wedding.

The meddling mum – played by Helen Worth – will do anything to put the breaks on the upcoming nuptials of her troubled teen son and mouthy single mother Kylie Turner (Paula Lane), will the entire Platt family thinking deceptive David (Jack P. Shepherd) is making a huge mistake by committing so quickly.

A ‘Corrie’ insider revealed: “Who knows what Gail will do in order to save David? She and the rest of the family think he’s making a big mistake – and they want to stop this wedding!”

However, David isn’t the only future groom who is facing a complicated wedding day.

His best friend Graeme Proctor (Craig Gazey) – who staged a fake split with gorgeous girlfriend Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) so he can marry her pal Xin Chiang (Elizabeth Tan) in the hope of securing her a visa to stay in the UK – is terrified his sham nuptials will end in the disaster if people find out about his false relationship.

The source added to Inside Soap magazine: “Graeme has put himself in a dangerous position by doing this favour for Xin. He’s already got a criminal record, and another conviction could land him back inside for a long time!”

Liz McDonald to bid an emotional farewell to the Corrie cobbles in the style of Bet Lynch.

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Coronation Street’s Liz McDonald will bid an emotional farewell to the cobbles in the style of Bet Lynch.

The miniskirted pint-puller – who has been played by actress Bev Callard on and off since 1989 – will see her tear-jerking final scenes mirror those of the notorious Rovers Return landlady Bet (Julie Goodyear) when she said goodbye to the ITV1 soap in 1995.

According to The Sun newspaper, ‘Corrie’ viewers will see Liz finish her final shift at the pub, place the bar towels over the beer pumps and pause for a final scan of the Rovers before walking out of Street for good.

However, the bolshie blonde leaves the cobbles without saying her goodbyes to ex-husband Jim McDonald (Charles Lawson), who is facing 20 years behind bars after carrying out an attempted armed robbery on a bank in the hope of getting money to buy Liz’s much-loved pub for her.

With the ex-con looking at the prospect of two decades in prison, he begs Liz to wait for him to complete his agonising stretch, but in a shock twist she flees the streets of Weatherfield for a new life in Spain.

Actress Bev told Inside Soap magazine: “Jim and Liz are a great couple. But they’re too destructive together. They still love each other, and neither of them has ever been able to settle with anyone else. This may be their last chance at happiness, but they’ll screw it up!

“It’s amazing to follow in the footsteps of Julie Goodyear and I’ve enjoyed working with my on-screen grandchildren. But I’m looking forward to new challenges and seeing what life has to offer beyond Liz’s famous miniskirts.”
