Season four of Lost won’t be with us until some time in the New Year, and fed up with hearing which cast member has most recently been popped for drunk driving (Daniel Dae Kim) us fans of the enigmatic island drama are hungry for news about the show itself. And so, to help oblige those of us desperate for their Lost fix, here are a few tasty tidbits (spoiler haters: look away now) as executive producer Carlton Cuse has been revealing what’s in store for the survivors of Oceanic flight 815.
Remember the season three reveal that Jack and Kate make it off the island? Well, we’re in for plenty more flash forwards. “Moving forwards, you’ll get a mix,” explains Cuse. “Every week will hopefully be a guessing game as to not just who will be focused on, but when we’re focusing on them.” And though he met his maker, Charlie’s importance is not diminished: “Desmond will have to deal with the after-effects and the guilt of [Charlie's death],” elaborates co-exec producer Damon Lindelof. “He will question whether or not Charlie would have made this sacrifice, had he not told him that was what he was going to do. He will question the role he played in Charlie’s death.”

For those of us who watched last season’s Lost and were confused by the deaths of background characters Nikki and Paulo, the show’s executive producer Carlton Cuse has an explanation: it was what we, the fans wanted. What? In an interview with Sci Fi Wire, Cuse defended the plot that saw two of the peripheral characters given centre stage only to promptly die: “People asked questions about the other characters on the beach. Are we ever going to learn anything about them?’ But once we did it, people were angry that we were taking time away from our main characters and giving it to Nikki and Paulo, so we listened to the fans and decided to bury them alive.”
That is such rubbish. The only way that audiences can warm to and appreciate new characters is to be given time – the one thing that Lost producers decided to deprive Nikki and Paulo of. Of course after the briefest of introductions to their personalities and back stories, they weren’t going to rival the likes of Sawyer and Jack in the popularity stakes, but that didn’t stop the writers from persisting with the likes of Desmond, Ben and Juliet who were also latecomers to the action.

Lost might be a long way from finding its way back onto British TV (it’s not even due on American telly for another five months), but it has some new faces to get us all excited. Confirmed newbies for the show’s fourth season include Jeremy Davies (the wimpy soldier in Saving Private Ryan), Ken Leung (the spiky-faced baddie mutant from X-Men: The Last Stand and soon to be seen in The Sopranos), Brit Rebecca Mader (The Devil Wears Prada) and Lance Reddick (Daniels from The Wire and Desmond Mobay from Oz.)
The most hyped new addition is Lawnmower Man actor Jeff Fahey (pictured right). The show’s producers are remaining tight-lipped on his and all the other new recruits parts, but are clearly excited at having the Grindhouse star on board. Carlton Cuse has enthused: ”The Lawnmower Man and The Marshall are personal faves. And he has the most intense eyes of any guy out there, and I say that as a non-gay man.” Fellow producer Damon Lindelof is equally thrilled’: ‘Fahey is one of those actors who feels like he fits into the Lost model: He’s enormously talented and will be vaguely recognizable to some people, but he’ll be able to land on our island without most people going, ‘Oh, I know who that guy is.’ And especially for the part we cast him for, he has exactly the right sensibilities.” Which are? Come on – give us a clue.

So, here it is. The teaser trailer that Lost producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse unveiled at Comic-con last week. Now up on YouTube, the 2 minute-long footage has gotten fans of the show both excited and even more confused than ever. Is the Orchid real? What’s with the rabbits? And is this actually taken from the show or just a random clip, especially made to screen at the event?
Whatever the answers (and please God, let there be answers), I suspect that us fans will have to wait until season 4 hits TV screens (or illegal download sites.) But we can always speculate and theorise, and everyone has their own, individual interpretation of all things Lost. What’s yours? C’mon, let’s share.

Comic-Con seems to be where it’s at for all the best gossip on the top US shows. Yesterday, the writer/producers of Lost, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse (right) took to the stage and in a frenzied question and answer session, let slip a few nuggets of information on the upcoming season 4.
The most excitement ensued when Harold Perrineau took to the stage; with rumours confirmed earlier in the week that he would be reprising his character Michael Dawson on the hit show. So what did they have to say to get all the fan boys excited? Read on.
