Above Suspicion: Deadly Intent review

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

As I said yesterday, the joint times of Silent Witness and Above Suspicion forced me to record one and watch the other. In a very close draw Silent Witness won and Above Suspicion was recorded and watched yesterday afternoon.

It would be unfair to compare it to Silent Witness – it’s a completely different type of crime drama – but the dead bodies do give both some similarities.

That said the mini series is alot darker than Silent Witness. Episode one began with a man having facial reconstruction surgery and focuses around a typical London council estate. Kelly Reilly, who plays Anna Travis for the second time – let’s not forget she took over from Helen Mirren, in my opinion isn’t the strongest of actresses, but, that said, she gets Lynda La Plante’s character just right.

She of course is having a few issues with her boss DI Travis, after an encounter in the last story.

The pair are sent out to investigate the death of an ex-cop who was found in a drugs den. He’s got a fiance but he’s also married to a Danish lady, leaving her £500,000 in his life insurance policy. Add to that some lethal drugs, a hard nut drugs copper and sexual tension and it’s not bad watching.
