TV Scoop Poll: Which programmes are you most looking forward to in early 2009?

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

demonscast.jpgFirst of all, a very Happy New Year to you all from me, I hope it’s a healthy and very happy one. Yes, 2009 may have only just begun, but here at TV Scoop we’re already getting excited about the plethora of new programmes ready to burst onto our screens. Because that’s just the sort of people we are. Sitting here with one eye on the Doctor Who Prom, I’m clearly looking forward to the DW Specials (it takes more than a ho-hum Christmas episode to dampen my enthusiasm, believe me), but they’re a little way off just yet unfortunately. Pop over the cut, then, for a brief introduction to the shows we’ll be tuning into very soon, and the chance to tell us what you’re most looking forward to in early 2009…

So what do you think of the Windasses?

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

08_12_CORO_WINDASS1.jpgThe Windass family arrived in Coronation Street this week, and while we normally leave all the Corrie-related stuff to our shiny, lovely, ultimately special sister site Corrie Blog, I thought this warranted a brief discussion. Are the Windasses “real Corrie people” or are they only visiting? You can usually tell within a few episodes, so click through for some early opinion and the chance to have your say.

TV Scoop Poll: Which new programme did you enjoy most in November?

Monday, December 1st, 2008

who460.jpg

Now we’re into the madness of December and the lead-up till Christmas, it’s the perfect time to sit back and reflect on November. It was a pretty good month. The US election, Keery Katona on This Morning and a bunch of decent television programmes. So what did it for you? Did Channel 4′s amazing Civil War drama The Devil’s Whore float your boat? Or were things like Survivors or last night’s Wallander must-watches? Why don’t you tell us? There’s the poll after the jump…

TV Scoop poll: Should John Sergeant be voted off Strictly tomorrow night?

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Sarge1.jpg

Who knew John Sergeant would be causing so much fuss. He’s been taking swipes at the Strictly judges this week, the judges have been having a go at him… it’s all gone a bit crazy. So what is the argument here? John Sergeant isn’t a great dancer, that much is clear. Should he be booted off now, while the other, better dancers can do their thing as the competition hots up? Or does he entertain so much, is such a nice, lovely man, that he deserves to stay in on those criteria alone? My own personal feeling is that he can’t stay for too much longer (especially now things are getting serious), but have sympathy with the argument that Strictly is a Saturday night teatime entertainment show. But what do you think? Tell us after the jump…

TV Scoop poll: Which new programme did you enjoy most in October?

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

characters-index-lucas.jpg

It’s been a pretty good month for television; it always tends to be when the autumn season kicks in. We’ve had Dead Set on E4, the spectacular return of Spooks on BBC One, and even Dawn Porter has snuck in there over on Channel 4. So what was your favourite? We had the Kerry Katona and Brand/Ross debacles, yet the ‘normal’ TV was, on the whole, excellent. There’s a poll after the jump… why don’t you tell us what your favourites are?

TV Scoop Poll: Should Kerry Katona have been allowed on This Morning?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

691491986-kerry-katona-shocks-tv-viewers.jpg

And so Kerry Katona’s incredible life continues to unravel before our very eyes. Whether we like it or not. Yesterday (Wednesday 22 October) she appeared on This Morning and, consequently, appeared in every newspaper and on every radio station as a direct result of her ‘performance’. It was gruesome to watch, she was slurring her words and patently all over the shop. It got me a-wondering… should she really have been allowed to go on a widely-watched television programme in that state? My own view is that her publicity team haven’t played a blinder on this one, and she needs to disappear for a while, take it easy and get some serious treatment. There is a counter argument that suggests that if she’s happy to do these MTV fly-on-the-wall documentaries and lay herself bare to the media, she deserves all that comes her way. What do you think? Tell us by voting in the poll, over the jump…

Credit Crunch bites down on pay TV services

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

trash-your-tv.gifA report by Continental Research has found that 6% of viewers have decided to shelve plans to buy additional services as a result of the bleak economic forecasts and, more worryingly for pay TV service providers, 24% of their customers are planning to cut their expenditure on “nice to have” packages such as movies and sports in the coming year.

So what would you choose to bin off if you had to reduce the size of your package, and do you really need that Sky box at all? And apart from not being able to catch Breaking Bad, is there anything I really miss after knocking Sky on the head over two years ago?

TV Scoop Poll: Would you still watch Crufts?

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

zamp.jpgOh we all love a bit of Crufts. Lovely. The funny little doggies. The onomatopoeic name. So it was a bit of a shock when the mighty RSPCA pulled out of the show earlier this month, stating the show encourages dangerous deformities from over-breeding in certain kinds of dogs (the extreme sloping back of today’s pedigree German Shepherd is a case in point). Following the RSPCA boycott, the Kennel Club has been in talks to try to save the show, and has touted it to ITV and Sky. No news yet. So, since the disturbing revelations about extreme breeding, would you watch Crufts? Videos and voting, over the page.

Everyone happy to see Nick Cotton back in Walford?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

john_altman.jpgAlbert Square’s nastiest villain is slithering back to the EastEnd this Christmas according to a report from the BBC today. Having failed to poison his own mother (Dot) to death, he did manage to cause a permanent cessation of breathing in another denizen of Walford, albeit not the one he intended. He cut Mark Fowler’s brake pipes but it was Nick’s own son Ashley that rode the bike to his doom. So are we all giddy with delight at the return of such an outstanding outcast, or is it a sidestep too far for the crime-ridden district of E20? Click through for your chance to vote on the latest development at the Cotton plantation, and to read what Nick’s alter ego, actor John Altman, has to say about his most recent stint on the square.

TV Scoop Poll: Which new programme did you enjoy most in September?

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

GemmaA1.jpg

Now that was more like it. A decent month of television after the comparitive mediocrity of July and August. In the past month we’ve had stuff like The Restaurant, Strictly, The X Factor, Lost In Austen, Tess of The D’Urbervilles, Place Of Execution and The Children, all excellent stuff. There was even Merlin and Hole In The Wall. So what di you think? After the jump you can vote for your favourite show, and if it hasn’t been offered up as an option tell us what your favourite was.

To help make up your minds, why not read our stuff on The Restaurant, Lost In Austen, Strictly, The X Factor, Tess, Merlin, Place of Execution AND The Children.

TV Scoop Poll: Are you enjoying Harry and Paul?

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

harrypaul.jpgI was worried about this show. I’m not sure why. I mean, Harry Enfield was brilliant back in the day, then The Fast Show came along and that was brilliant, too. Not just a spin-off project for Whitehouse, it pretty much blew Enfield’s show out of the water – leaving us wondering whether the two could still be friends. But even The Fast Show started to look a bit dated eventually, and with both these programmes the catchphrases were so watered down by constant repetition by everyone, including you, that we started to forget how funny they once were. But it’s lovely to see they’re still mates, and working partners, and I’m really impressed with their new show. More imaginative than Armstrong & Miller, less gross-out and smug than Lucas & Walliams, I think they’re doing something really good here. But shut up, me. What do you think?

You can read Anna’s review of the first episode here.

TV Scoop Poll: Do we need to hear all about Jade’s cancer?

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

jgo1.jpgI realise I’m sort of propagating the problem even by publishing this post (I might pick a peck of pickled peppers later), but the question has come up and the public must be allowed to speak. Ever since we first heard about Jade’s cancer (Scoop was there first) we’ve been updated daily of her progress.

But do we actually want to know? Is it intrusive, or limelight-hogging, or something else bad? Do you think we should turn the cameras off, stop asking questions, and let her deal with it in peace? Maybe you think she’s in the public eye, so she’s game. You tell us! Poll over the page…

Poll: Was Ola Jordan’s outfit a bit much?

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

olaleo.jpgOur ed Paul, red-blooded male that he is thoroughly enjoyed the site of Ola in her catsuit, and before you all accuse me of being a prude or whatever I should stress I think she looked pretty good just as I’m sure Tess Daly looks pretty good in her underwear, or naked. But Tess Daly doesn’t go on teatime telly in her pants. Holly Willoughy almost does, sometimes. And sure, Ola is no stranger to the skimp, and this series the costume department really seem to be enjoying themselves. But have they gone too far this time? What do we think, folks? A bit strong for a family show, or fine and dandy, this being the 21st century and all? We’d love to know.

As EastEnders garners 200 complaints we ask: should soaps highlight social issues?

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

ee_whitney_tony.jpgIt’s an age-old dilemma. Soaps like to carry edgy stories of complex and topical social issues, but they air before the watershed. Just how far should their storylines go? The arrival of paedophile step-father Tony in Albert Square this week, and his subsequent almost immediate arrival in 15-year-old Whitney’s bed, has raised the hackles of the nation’s complainers, with an unprecedented 204 of them contacting the BBC directly or via Ofcom (out of a peak audience of 8 million). Do they have a point, or are they stereotypical fuddy-duddies who’d rather this sort of thing was swept under the rug? You decide.

TV Scoop Poll: Which new programme did you enjoy most in August?

Monday, September 1st, 2008

2008-olympic-1024-768.jpg

So how was August for you? A fallow, scorched earth or a fragrant bouquet of televisual stamens (hmmm, rubbish metaphors there). For me it was all about The Lympics, but non sports fans out there will have despised it. The all-consuming nature of the event meant that gems like House Of Saddam and Maestro didn’t get the coverage they perhaps deserved. What about you? What did you think? Let us know by voting for your favourite over the jump.

X Factor: How do you feel about sob stories?

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

xf_2007_mafia.jpgIt’s been a week for kerfuffle and brouhaha around the dear old X Factor, what? Me? I’d be happy to carry on in my own bubble-world, where The X Factor is a singing competition, everyone of the 180,000 who queue up for hours has the same chance of winning, and the eventual winner is the best singer/entertainer. Unfortunately, that particular bubble burst a long time ago. So what do you think? Click through to read what happened at a typical audition and for your chance to vote on sob stories. Essential component of a modern reality show, or annoying dreck that should be left on the cutting room floor?

TV Scoop Poll: Will you be staying up to watch the Olympics?

Friday, August 8th, 2008

I’m sitting here watching the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony (suitably awestruck) and while I’m really looking forward to the fortnight of sporting excellence ahead – I may not be any good at sport myself, but goodness I’m good at watching it – I can’t say I’m entirely looking forward to the fact that much of the coverage will be on the Beeb in the middle of the night.

Of course, sometimes staying up to see the climax some random sport that you would never normally give two hoots about is exactly what the Olympics is about, but every night? I’m afraid I’m not hardcore enough for that; I’ll be mainly sticking to the Olympic Breakfast show which will round up the night’s action. But what about you guys – will you be performing your own little Olympic feats by staying up most nights? Perhaps, like me, you’ll just do it for something that really catches your imagination – or maybe you just couldn’t care less… Whatever your plans, let us know.

TV Scoop: Which new programme did you enjoy most in July?

Friday, August 1st, 2008

bkdvd.jpg

It’s that time of the month again, and what a month it’s been. It’s been absolutely shite, hasn’t it? Doctor Who has finished, Bonekickers is pretty terrible (even I am starting to come round to that one… “I’m quite a ride”… now that line was funny), Sasha: Beauty Queen At 11 was shockingly dreadful and erm, that was pretty much it. There were two very good things that started in July – Dexter and Britain’s Missing Top Model – so what will it be? What was your favourite show in July? Go on, I dare you to say Bonekickers… The poll is after the jump.

Peter Purves gets bitten by a dog

Friday, August 1st, 2008

PeterPurvesMM_203x150.jpg

Peter Purves, stalwart of 1970s Blue Peter, Kick Start and, more recently, Crufts, has been bitten by a dog. Possibly the most mundane headline I’ve ever written ever. But there is a lightly amusing story behind it. Peter has, of course, has been in the news recently, thanks to his Blue Peter co-presenter Valerie Singleton (she admitted that the two had had an affair back in the day), but now king of dogs has come a cropper. The judger has become the, erm, bitten.

TV Scoop poll: Which new show did you enjoy most in June?

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I’m tired of saying it, but June was a pretty poor month for telly. Dominated by football and Big Brother (nectar for some), June was populated my the odd televisual highlight only. As ever, we want to hear what your favourite new programme was – was it the Margaret Thatcher biopic, was it Gok’s Fashion Fix, or was it indeed Big Brother or the football. You tell us!
