It’s been a while but I’m happy to tell you that our comments facility is now back up and running. For the past few months, our parent company has been having server issues, which has meant no comments. But thankfully they’ve all been sorted out so please get commenting. If you have taken issue with one of our reviews, tell us. If you have your own opinions about a particular programme or series, share you views. That’s the beauty of TV – everyone has an opinion, and we want to read yours!

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009TV Scoop comments still down… bear with us!
Wednesday, April 1st, 2009You may have noticed that TV Scoop’s comment-leaving service is still disabled. The tech team over at Shiny Towers are still working hard to resolve the situation, but in the meantime please keep reading, and if you feel a burning desire to comment on something we’ve written there are still a number of ways you can communicate with us. You can click on my name on the credits (bottom right of this page) and send me an email. We’re also on social networking sites Twitter (@tvscoop; @mofgimmers; @annalowman) and facebook. In the meantime thanks for reading and bearing with us.
Calling all writers… here’s your chance to blog for TV Scoop!
Friday, January 2nd, 2009Some questions for you. Do you sit in front of the telly every night and spout your views at the screen in an embarrassing and over-the-top fashion? Are you a student with forthright views on the future direction of Ready, Steady, Cook? Are you a stay-at-home-mother who loves watching rubbish telly? Do you have a reason why you like Ant more than Dec? Are you just an avid television watcher who wants their voice to be heard? If you’re answer is yes to any of the above, here’s your chance to be part of something. We have some room for a television lover who can write a bit. A TV lover who watches all kinds of stuff and can put their feelings down in word-form. Fancy it? Keen? Simply click on my name on the credits roll on the right hand side, near the bottom of this page and send me an email. Come and say hello. Tell me what your favourite TV shows are and why. Tell me what annoys you. Tell me!
TV Scoop writes for The Guardian!
Friday, August 22nd, 2008TV Scoop writes for The Guardian? That’s not strictly true, but one of our team, Anna, has been snapped up to write The Guardian’s TV previews for the past few days. We all read The Guardian here at TV Scoop (among other newspapers) so for Anna to be snapped up and be asked to write for the paper is really satifsfying and makes us really proud. Well done to Anna, whose passion for TV, music, theatre and the arts in general has made her a joy to work with. Don’t worry, she’ll still be writing for us, but I just wanted to shout from the rooftops and big her up. It just shows you that TV Scoop, as a site and as a collective, is doing something right. If you want to read Anna’s previews, go here.
Please bear with us – there are technical problems afoot
Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008As ever we really appreciate you reading our site and more often than not enjoy reading your comments about the TV shows we write about. In a weekend that saw a possible regeneration in Doctor Who, as well as some excellent/shambling performances at Glastonbury, you may have noticed that the ability to leave comments has disappeared. Sod’s law really – one weekend in June where there was some decent telly and no one could leave a comment. It’s not us becoming comment Nazis and banning them, there are some weirdcomputerthings afoot going on behind the scenes. We’ve been assured that these problems are being sorted out, so be patient and keep reading our posts. Soon enough you’ll be able to tell us how rubbish we are and/or how rubbish the TV show we thought was great was. Thanks!
TV Scoop goes Twittertastic!
Tuesday, June 17th, 2008To all those techno-savvy early adopters out there the fact that we’ve got round to getting our own Twitter feed is neither here nor there. Come on granddads, I can almost hear you cry, get with the programme (do kids say that these days?), we were wise to Twitter ages ago. I’m sorry, I am. But you know, some of us like big, proper conversations and all that old-fashioned guff. Twitter is cool though, so expect the TV Scoop team to update regularly from their sofas or from out and about. You can read what’s going on in our particular corner of Twitter down near the bottom of this page, and you even find us online at twitter.com/tvscoop. Don’t forget, at the top of the page you can click on a button that will allow you to have a look at what’s on telly. Yes, TV listings on your favourite TV blog. Good, no?
Heard a song on TV and want to know what it is? Help is at hand
Thursday, February 21st, 2008
Have you ever found yourself watching the box and suddenly… “What is that song? I can’t live without it! It’s amazing! Soulful… catchy… life affirming… and on an advert for fried battery chicken!” Music is more important to commercials than ever… just look at the Boots ‘Here Come The Girls’ ad’? It would have seen its impact halved without that soulful stomper. So where do you find out what these tunes are?
Well, some of you may or may not know that I write for another Shiny site called MyChemicalToilet, and on there, I have a weekly column called Where Have I Heard That Song Before? There, I feature some of the best (and worst) songs heard on the box (and elsewhere). So have a peek now and find out what that song off the Fiat 500 advert was called…
This was the news: the week that was on Shiny Lifestyle
Friday, February 1st, 2008You enjoy reading TV Scoop? That’s good, and we appreciate it. But TV Scoop is part of a whole range of good-looking and entertaining lifestyle sites at Shiny Media. So have a look around, because this was the week that was across the Shiny Lifestyle sites. And what a week it has been… this was the news:
Bong!
There was a heated debate about Carla Connor (Alison King to her mum) on Corrie Blog right here. There was also a profile of Annie and Jack Walker (first landlords of the Rovers) here.
Bong!
On Bayraider, there was a story about a Tom Hanks solar powered radio here, and a Superbowl ticket special here.
Bong!
The ace Available For Panto had a big story on John winning Celebrity Hijack here, and Leona Lewis’ new US video for Bleeding Love.
Bong!
My Chemical Toilet has been cheeky again. Natasha Bedingfield’s record label has cynically repackaged her second album was the shock headline, while Morrissey got Russel Brand to help him out.
Bong!
Lost Weekend had this little lot – it asked whether a plane can take off from a treadmill and there was a special feature on Slum Tourism.
Bong!
These were the headlines on Hippyshopper last week: the end of the road for the patio heater, and there was a Hippyshopper green Valentine’s Day gift special.
Bong!
On Crafty Crafty, learn how to crochet your own Legend of Zelda thingy here, and there were some lovely his and hers mitten patterns.
Bong!
Last but not least is Dollymix. And wouldn’t you believe it, Ryanair was having trouble with racy adverts. Filthy sods.
Music on TV (or Where Have I Heard That Song Before?)
Monday, January 21st, 2008
You may or may not know that I write for another Shiny Media site called MyChemicalToilet. It’s all about music and all that stuff… and on there, there’s a section called Where Have I Heard That Song Before? which enables me to trawl through my mind to see what songs have been featured on the box… think Here Come The Girls by Ernie K. Doe which was used on that Boots commercial in the build up to Christmas.
There’s so many great tunes being used on adverts and shows at the moment that it would be a shame if people didn’t get the chance to find out what the songs are called… which is why I’m advising that you go over to the Where Have I Heard That Song Before? on MyChemicalToilet to find out who did that song that went “Nothin’ but a heartache everyday…” on the KFC ad’ and more!
Win Monty Panesar cricket DVD type things
Monday, January 14th, 2008I like cricket, I make no bones about that. You may not, but you might know someone that does. Which is why I’m alerting you to our sister site, The Googly, and its Monty Panesar competition.
Maony Panesar. Who he? He’s a really good cricketer who plays for England and, thanks to his brilliant, wicket-taking celebrations, has helped breath new life into the England cricket team. OK, se he might not be on top form at the moment, but on his game he’s one of the world’s best spinners. Over on The Googly, they have three copies of the Mony Panesar’s Cricket Madness DVD to give away. Click here to enter.
Merry Christmas from the Shiny team!
Monday, December 24th, 2007We’ll be posting reviews and all sorts of other things over the Christmas period, but for now it remains for me to say thanks for reading and thanks for all your comments during this topsy-turvey year of TV. It’s been special.
As a really special, ahem, treat, here’s the video of the Shiny team singing a merry Christmas. It’s over the jump so have a look. But one warning… best not to have eaten before you look. Merry Christmas!

Take part in Shiny Media’s Reader Survey – and win an iPod Touch!
Wednesday, December 12th, 2007It’s been quite a year for Shiny Media, the people behind TV Scoop and the family of other top blog sites. But, as ever, we want to hear from you – we want you to let us know what you read, what you think, are we great, are we rubbish… it all helps us to take stock, listen to you and produce blog sites that YOU want to read.
Surveys are fun, but even more fantastic is the fact that we have teamed up with our chums at play.com to give away one lucky respondee a rather splendid 16GB iPod Touch, worth £249.99 in the shops. This winner will be chosen at random, so it’s worth having a shot. Play.com, by the way, is a marvellous placey to do your Christmas shopping – there are loads of really affordable DVDs, CDs, book, gizmos and lots of other stuff to browse through if you fancy doing a spot of online shopping and beating the crowds around town.
The survey takes about three mintues to complete, so there are really no excuses. Besides, the glow and warmth you will feel from taking part in such a worthwhile enterprise could very well last a lifetime. We thank you!
To take the survey, go here.
I should also add that Shiny T&Cs can be viewed here.
TV Scoop featured in The Guardian Guide
Monday, December 10th, 2007Yes, our new chums at The Guardian Guide (the paper’s hipper-than-thou Saturday entertainment supplement) featured little old us at the weekend. And, I have to say, we’re all quite chuffed about it. Andrew Collins, no less, selected us as the TV blog to watch out for (along with another A1 Shiny site, Available For Panto).
As cool as this selection is (you can see us in the blogroll section here), it’s you lot that help us make the site. So if you want to subscribe to TV Scoop and receive a daily email round-up (it’s free people!) have a look to your right (at the top of the page). If you don’t, keep telling us what you like, love, loathe or merely dislike. Your opinions are what makes the site (and the world) go round.

Women’s Football World Cup on TV
Thursday, September 6th, 2007
It’s always been a source of total wonder to me how popular football (or “soccer”, as I believe they call it) is among women in the US. I was delighted when Beau Dure from USA Today sent me a link to this article – yes indeedy, as from 2009, the girls in America will be playing for pay again.
Over there, while the boys wear protective uniforms and run into each other while kicking the ball a long way, or use a big stick to hit a very hard ball a long way, girls are positively encouraged to play the beautiful game. Truly, football is an aesthetically pleasing sport – though it involves contact, it doesn’t rely on brute force or speed – and as such it’s ideal for the more graceful, gentler sex. And, since it tends to contain somewhat less diving than the men’s game, it makes pretty good TV for sports fans as well.
HDTVUK – Your one stop shop for all things High Definition
Wednesday, August 8th, 2007
For some, TV is something to watch, endure, enjoy and nothing else. It serves a purpose to inform and sometimes entertain. You get more channels with packages, and thus, spend more time flicking. However, that’s not enough for some people. No chance. Some people need gadgets! They need super sharp clarity that shows every single hair on Justin Lee Collins’ head (ya sick pups). They want HDTV.
However, diving into the world of High Definition TV can be a bit confusing and spending your hard earneds on a posh box isn’t a decision that should be taken lightly. Good news for you is that our sister site, HDTVUK, is there to offer you a helping hand. Featuring news and reviews on all things high-def, Blu-Ray and high definition recorders, HDTVUK will help you forge a formed opinion so you don’t get suckered in by offers and snake-oil salesmen down your local telly shop.
