Helen Flanagan moving back to parents

Helen Flanagan has moved back into her parents’ home amid rumours she is planning to quit Coronation Street. The 21-year-old actress – who has portrayed Rosie Webster in the ITV1 soap since she was nine – has left the apartment she rented in Manchester’s exclusive Alderley Edge suburb to head back to her mum and dad’s place in Bolton.

However, the brunette beauty – who is currently dating Swansea footballer Scott Sinclair – admitted she has no plans to live on her own again, and she doesn’t know what she’d do without her dad.

Writing on her twitter page, Helen said: “After dads meeting he’s coming to save the day ie read my water readings and go through paperwork, don’t know what I’d do without my dad.

“I’m moving out of my appartment today and back to my parents till the new year cant wait to go back home. Won’t live on my own again. (sic)”

Helen – who was spotted fleeing the Coronation Street set in tears in August after shooting semi-naked modelling scenes – has told bosses she is contemplating leaving the soap when her current contract ends in March because she is worried about the negative effects the show is having on her health.

A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “It’s no secret Helen has been struggling recently. She’s been working hard and the stress has got to her. Experiencing those panic attacks has shaken her up really badly.

“She has said she doesn’t want to renew her contract. Corrie may have to face up to life without Rosie Webster.”

Is Downton Abbey set haunted?

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

Downton Abbey - Emmy Award winner

The ITV1 period drama is filmed at Highclere Castle, Berkshire. And Lady Carnarvon, the country pile’s chatelaine, thinks there are spirits and ghosts living all over stunning property.

She told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “There are a few different ghosts here. We all know who they are. Some people see ghosts. Some don’t. It doesn’t matter.

“But a lot of people have lived here, and I think you can tell when something terribly upsetting has happened in a room.”

However, it seems the ghosts are having a positive effect on the show, as its second series has proved hugely successful, with creator Julian Fellowes admitting he is stunned by the affection people have for the period drama.

Speaking about the show – which has now been sold to more than 100 countries, including America, Australia, Japan and Israel – Julian said: “I thought we’d made a good show and people would enjoy it, but it was extraordinary.

“We were playing to something like a third of the adult population. I mean, nobody could expect that level of success, except for Simon Cowell. It was completely mad.”

Coronation Street’s Emily Bishop sets herself on fire – shooting Bonfire Night episode ironically

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Eileen Derbyshire set herself on fire filming Coronation Street scenes this week.  The 80-year-old actress – who plays show stalwart Emily Bishop – was unhurt by the incident, which saw her stand too close to a candle, setting her shawl alight, during filming on Wednesday (21.09.11), though she was seen by a doctor in her dressing room.

A source said: “It was a scary moment for Eileen. She got too lose to a tea-light candle and her clothes went up in flames. She was lucky someone on the crew acted so quickly.  “Thankfully, she didn’t get burned but the costume was ruined so the scene had to be completely reshot.”

The incident occurred during a day of filming for Bonfire Night- yet Eileen’s mishap took place during a routine scene as part of a birthday party for Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent).  The source added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It was hardly the biggest scene for November 5. There are others which have fire and fireworks in them so it’s amazing this one caused such a problem.”

A show spokesperson confirmed the incident, but insisted it wasn’t serious. They said: “It was a minor incident and no one was in serious danger at any time.”

Meanwhile, a second emergency caused disruptions to filming this week after Helen Flanagan suffered a panic attack mid-scene. The 21-year-old actress – who plays wannabe model Rosie Webster – was taken off set until she calmed down after clutching her chest and struggling to catch her breath.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: “It was very distressing to watch. She’s a young, bubbly girl and was in a right state.

“It came on all of a sudden. It was very scary for Helen and for everyone else in the studio.”

Although it is the first time Helen has been taken ill on set, she admitted to show bosses she had had several of the attacks in recent weeks, but is unsure what caused them.

The brunette beauty has spoken to praise the support she received from the cast and crew.

She said: “I love the people at my work. So many people here are understanding and make me laugh. I feel very lucky.”

Kym Marsh to present ITV documentary on teenage mums

Kym Marsh sings at the Paul Scholes Man United testimonial

Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has revealed that she has been signed-up for a documentary on teenage mums. The actress has three children of her own: 16-year-old David, daughter Emily May, who is 13 and baby Polly.

She wrote in new! magazine: “I hope it will dispel some of the ideas about teenage mothers. “As I was one, they thought I was perfect for the job.”

She added: “They get a bad press. People think they only do it to live off benefits.

“But there are lots of young women who genuinely want to have children so it’s a shame they all get tarred with the same brush.

“With me, it was just one of those things that happened.”

Coronation Street’s Carla Connor in HIV scare following brutal rape

Monday, August 8th, 2011

Alison King who plays Corrie's Carla Connor

Prepare yourself for another bout of misery and depression as Coronation Street’s Carla Connor fears she has contracted HIV following her brutal rape.

The brunette businesswoman, played by Alison King, will be terrified she has caught the virus after being sexually attacked by cruel boyfriend Frank Foster (Andrew Lancel) after she calls off their forthcoming wedding and announces her love for boozy bookie Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne).

In the shocking scenes, which will air on ITV1 in September, Carla will arrive at a sexual assault crisis centre immediately after the horrific attack.

According to the Daily Star newspaper, a female doctor tells her: “I know this is very difficult for you right now, Mrs. Connor, but we have to talk about tests for HIV and hepatitis. We can also offer you emergency contraception.”

With the attack taking place on the eve of Carla and Frank’s wedding, the factory boss will be left bruised and bleeding on the floor of her flat.

However, her HIV worries could signify the start of a dark episode for Carla, as it was recently revealed she will attempt suicide after the rape.

A source said: “Carla is at rock bottom. She prides herself on being invincible and feels utterly broken by Frank’s actions. Peter is the only friend she has left and she’s never felt rejection like it. She wants to end it all.”

Coronation Street transvestite Marc given the boot (or should that be high heel)

Looking like a member of The New York dolls, Andrew Hall who plays Corrie tranny Marc/Marcia is set to be axed

Coronation Street bosses have axed Andrew Hall, who plays Audrey Roberts’ cross-dressing lover Marc Selby, after six months on the show.

The actor – who is best known for his portrayal of Russell in 1970s sitcom Butterflies – is being shown the door from the ITV1 soap after his storyline, which sees Andrew play a stiletto-wearing, gruff voiced, transvestite Marcia, has not gone down as well as expected.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ‘The plot hasn’t been for everyone but we’re glad we tackled the issue.’

There are a number of dramatic twists planned to portray Marc’s exit from Weatherfield, which are set to leave Audrey devastated.

Last month Coronation Street came under fire from art critic Brian Sewell in The Daily Mail for its number of gay, transexual and transvestite characters.

ITV plans to make us pay to see Corrie’s Rosie Webster in her undies

Friday, July 29th, 2011

rosie webster underwear.jpgIt looks like ITV are going to start charging viewers to watch vintage and spin off episodes of Corrie. The broadcaster will start charging to access its online ITV player where it plans to house old episodes and specially created material.

The recently shot ‘webisodes’ featuring Rosie Webster’s modelling exploits in London look likely to be among the first to cost money to view. Despite recording healthy profits last year the broadcaster sees Corrie and its other more popular products as attractive enough for viewers to want to pay-per-view online.

How all this will affect (if at all) the normal weekly episodes of Coronation Street remains to be seen but an indication of what we can expect may be the recent Gary Windass spin off which saw some elements of the storyline appear in the soap but others on the web only. Will it improve the quality of the programme or stretch the production teams too thinly? We shall see.

Antony Cotton signs new Coronation Street contract

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Antony Cotton, Corrie's Sean Tully, looking like he's just shoved his fingers in a socket

Antony Cotton, who plays gay knicker stitcher Sean Tully, is “proud” to have signed a new contract to stay on Coronation Street.

The actor took to Twitter while watching an episode of The Corrie Years about the story between characters Hayley – who is transgender – and Roy Cropper to tell fans will be continuing with his role.

He tweeted: “Sat watching The Corrie Years and I’m not ashamed to say that I am shedding a tear watching Hayley and Roy’s story.

“And I have to say how proud I am to be in a show that has not only supported but celebrated characters like Hayley and Sean.

“I have just signed my 9th contract with the show and I couldn’t be prouder to be in the show. Thank you Coronation Street, you are amazing! (sic)”

Sean’s current storyline sees him taking care of his son, Dylan, with partner, Marcus Dent, while the child’s mother Violet is currently recovering from an accident. Antony, 35, recently said he loves working with the three-year-old twins who play his on-screen son.

He said: “The identical twins who play my three-year-old son are so cute. I kept trying to get them to pick up some of my mannerisms. In one scene I did a flamboyant shrug, and the little boy did the same when it was his shot.”

Coleen Nolan bids emotional farewell to Loose Women

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

The outspoken host – who has been a panellist on the ITV1 daytime show for 11 years – couldn’t hold back her tears as she filmed her final episode, in which she thanked her colleagues and loyal viewers.

Coleen – who was joined on the panel by Kate Thornton, Sherrie Hewson and Denise Welch – said: “I just want to say thank you to everyone obviously all you girls. I know we will be friends forever so it’s not goodbye for us but to all the people that have been involved in the show backstage – thank you.

“But more importantly I want to thank you the audience and you at home because you have been through my life with me and you’ve stood by me for eleven years. You have made me what I am today.

“And to my family. I’ll never forget this show. It has been my life. It will always be my life and I’ll always be grateful for it. I love every one of you and all of you at home.”

Coleen, 46, and the panel watched in tears as highlights from her 11 years were shown and Brian Conley serenaded her with a version of Cole Porter’s classic, It’s de – Lovely.

She then closed the show with a surprise performance of Carole King’s Say Goodbye Today which saw husband, Ray Fensome, play guitar.

Coronation Street: Carla Connor to be raped by Frank Foster

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Alison King who plays Corrie's Carla Connor

Despite the promise from producer Phil Collinson that crime in Corrie is going to be reduced, it seems this doesn’t apply to a forthcoming storyline which sees Carla Connor raped by her fiance Frank Foster.

The factory owner, played by Alison King, is set to be sexually assaulted by her business associate lover when she calls off their forthcoming wedding and announces her love for boozy bookie Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne).

However, viewers won’t have to endure the harrowing scenes of the actual attack. A source said: “These scenes will be uncomfortable to watch to say the least – but you don’t see the actual rape because that might be too disturbing for younger viewers.”

The 38-year-old actress has been working closely with rape support groups to ensure the storyline, which will see Frank (Andrew Lancel) try to convince Carla it was her fault, is portrayed realistically.

The insider added to The Sun newspaper: “This is such a sensitive subject and it’s important to get it right. The storyline is very gritty and realistic. It’s lacking the comic and homely touch Corrie is famous for.

“However, storylines are planned so far in advance bosses can’t just scrap scenes to make things lighter immediately.”

Peter will find out about Carla’s traumatic experience and attack Frank, which will see the bookmaker arrested for affray.

But Coronation Street executive producer Phil Collinson recently looked to have signalled the ITV1 soap could take on a different direction in future episodes. He admitted: “We’ve been at the police station and the court a little bit too much.”

Carol Vorderman ‘too upmarket’ for Loose Women

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Carol Vorderman: The new Loose Women presenter

Carol McGiffin is worried Carol Vorderman will make ‘Loose Women’ too “upmarket”.  The former Countdown star – who is known for her brains rather than her banter – is being lined up to replace Kate Thornton after she was sacked from the ITV1 show. But apparently McGiffin isn’t sure Vorderman’s right for the job.

When asked by TV host Alan Carr if she feared Vorderman was too “upmarket”, she said: “They have been talking to her, so yeah, it’s a good point.”  However, one person McGiffin and her fellow Loose Women co-stars Denise Welch and Sherrie Hewson does approve of to join the panel is former Coronation Street star Sally Lindsey, who will replace Zoe Tyler.

Denise said: “We love Sally. She just had twin boys and I think she will be a great addition. She is funny and feisty.”

It was recently reported a number of Loose Women presenters were threatening mutiny following the sacking of Kate and Zoe.

A source said: “All the girls were pretty peeved about the way in which Kate and Zoe were handed their notices. The women are, and were, a tight-knit bunch. They didn’t feel changed needed to be done in such a dramatic fashion.”

Coronation Street’s Tracy gets Steve, loses Steve, loses it – Contains Spoiler!

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

Kate Ford: Coronation Street's Tracy Barlow

Since retuning to Weatherfield last Xmas scheming Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) has been doing everything she can to make Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) her man.

With Steve and Becky (Katherine Kelly) currently separated it seems that this week Tracy finally breaks Steve’s will and the pair spend a night together.

Kate told Inside Soap: ‘Tracy has pulled out all the stops and falls over herself to let him play dad to Amy. That makes him really happy, so it seems that her plan is working perfectly. There are candles everywhere and she’s wearing a sexy top. She’s being her seductive best, but he manages to resist her. He leaves, and Tracy thinks that she’s failed. But then something happens and he comes back to her.”

What the ‘something’ is we don’t know but we do know that when Becky finds out about the liaison Steve believes Tracy has blabbed and isn’t best pleased. Kate explains, “Steve’s gutted and he takes it out on Tracy because he thinks she told Becky about them sleeping together. He doesn’t believe Tracy when she tries to tell him that it wasn’t her, and she knows there’s not a chance in hell of them getting back together now. She’s devastated, and tells her mum Deirdre that she and Amy are moving down to London right away. When Steve finds out, he insists that she can’t take Amy with her, but Tracy’s adamant – her mind is made up and she is leaving.’

What will happen? Will Tracy leave? Will Steve change his mind again? Will Amy be back in the fridge for midnight milk again? And will Ken be forced to put down his book, take his glasses off with a flourish and pull a pained expression?

Nigel Havers joins cast of Downton Abbey

Nigel Havers: to appear in Downton Abbey as Lord Hepworth

Earlier this week we announced that Joanna Lumley was to appear in the hit period drama series. Now it seems that another posh celeb, Nigel Havers, has joined the cast of Downton Abbey.

Recently seen as smooth, male escort Lewis Archer in Coronation Street, he will portray aristocrat Lord Hepworth when the period drama returns to our screens this Christmas.

Additionally, The Inspector Linley Mysteries star Sharon Small has also been signed up for a major role in the ITV1 show in a bid to “keep up the momentum” of Downton following the success of series one last year.

An insider said: “Nigel and Sharon will be the perfect additions to this year’s Downton. They are incredibly talented actors and are already hugely popular with our audience.

“After the success of last year’s series, bosses are determined to keep up the momentum by introducing high-profile stars to keep viewers excited. There’s massive anticipation ahead of the second series and bringing in well-known faces like Nigel will help the show come back with a bang.”

ITV bosses are said to be thrilled to have signed up ladies’ favourite Nigel for a role in Downton  – which also stars Dame Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville – in a bid to top the 11 million viewers the show drew in at the end of the first series.

Producer Phil Collinson promises to reduce crime on Coronation Street

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

Phil Collinson: Promises less crime on Corrie

Corrie producer Phil Collinson has been talking to OK magazine about the amount of crime portrayed in the soap and promised to reduce it. When asked if there were too many criminals on the cobbles he said:

“Maybe I can take that one on the chin. I agree… we have been at the police station and the court room a little bit too much. As we move ahead, we will shift away from serial killers and crime storylines.’

Following a couple of weeks of heavy criticism of the soap it would appear to mark an admission that things have to change and a move away from the endless cycle of criminal activity would certainly be a good one.

These days it seems there isn’t a character in the soap that hasn’t been arrested or locked up at some point with Kevin, Deidre, Tracy, David, Becky, Steve, Fiz, Gary and Emily all having served time inside. Except Emily, who hasn’t, although she did nearly once get arrested for refusing to get out of a tree.

Dannii Minogue boyfriend Kris Smith to appear on I’m A Celeb?

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

Kris Smith: Mr Dannii Minogue. Will he appear in I'm A Celebrity

Dannii Minogue’s boyfriend Kris Smith is being lined up to appear on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!

Bosses of the ITV1 reality show have reportedly offered the 32-year-old model – who has a one-year-old son Ethan with Dannii – £250,000 to go into the Australian jungle, and it is thought the former rugby ace will snap up the offer so he can become a star in his own right.

An insider said: “People have seen plenty of photos of Kris but few really know him. He’s always referred to as Dannii’s boyfriend and he thinks doing I’m A Celebrity… would be a good chance to show everyone who he really is.

Meanwhile, TV chiefs are hoping Kris’ appearance will boost the profile of the series among female viewers keen to see some “eye candy”.

Kris could be joined in the jungle by the likes of US teen star Aaron Carter, twin singing sensation Jedward, The Only Way Is Essex beauty Amy Childs and former Big Brother star Imogen Thomas, all of whom have been rumoured to be taking part in the upcoming series of the ITV1 reality show.

Jason Manford’s Show Me The Funny jokes axed

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

Jason Manford: Show Me The Funny jokes axed

Jason Manford’s jokes were axed from Show Me The Funny due to legal reasons.  The comic’s new programme – which sees 10 wannabe stand-up comedians critiqued by Kate Copstick and Alan Davies – had a ten minute monologue cut from the beginning of the show as his current crop of jokes will feature in a DVD due to be released by Universal Pictures in November.

He explained: “They edited all my bits out. It’s all very complicated.

“I’ve got a DVD coming out and I’m on tour, and a certain production company owns my sets.”

However, the 30-year-old funnyman insists he doesn’t mind seeing his jokes shelved as t provides more focus for the acts.

He added to The Sun newspaper: “I was basically the warm-up man before the proper comics.

“I could have given the whole ego thing, get the agent to ring them and say ‘Why didn’t you put some of my jokes on?’ but it’s not about me.”

Ratings for the programme slumped from 3.4 million at the beginning down to just 2.1 million by the end of the show.

The lacklustre performance was in stark contrast to BBC One’s show in the same 9pm Monday slot, crime drama ‘New Tricks’, which had 8.73 million viewers.

An insider said: “Producers will hope for a rapid improvement next week, or serious questions will be asked.”

Beyoncé is Coronation Street’s latest celebrity fan – apparently

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Here’s a good one – The Sun are reporting that millionaire international pop star Beyoncé has become a fan of Coronation Street. The Crazy In Love hitmaker apparently got hooked on life in Weatherfield during her recent visit to the UK to play music festivals like Glastonbury.

In a somewhat unlikely turn of events the paper are claiming that Beyoncé spent her downtime while here eschewing the popstar lifestyle in favour of watching soaps on TV. An ‘insider’ (unnamed, naturally) said that rather than party she would stay in her dressing room watching ITV. The source said: ‘Beyoncé finds the accents on EastEnders really funny. She spends half the time mimicking what they’re saying in her fake British accent.’

This story is obviously 100% true and not just made up by The Sun as an excuse to show another picture of Beyoncé in a skimpy outfit – something, incidentally, we here at TV Scoop would never be guilty of.

Meanwhile, Beyoncé gave astronauts on the space shuttle a special wake-up call on Saturday morning. The singer’s voice announced: “Good morning Atlantis, this is Beyoncé.” In the recorded message, the 29 year old said: “Sandy, Chris, Doug and Rex, you inspire all of us to dare to live our dreams, to know that we’re smart enough and strong enough to achieve them.” She then played them her new track, Run The World (Girls) which she dedicated to the crew’s female member, Sandy Magnus.

Loose Women presenters angered by sacking of co-stars Kate Thornton and Zoe Tyler

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Lynda Bellingham: not happy with treatment of Loose Women presenters

A number of Loose Women presenters are threatening to mutiny following the sacking of Kate Thornton and Zoe Tyler. Lynda Bellingham, Carol McGiffin and Andrea McLean are among those said to be irritated by the way show executives told the two they were leaving. They are threatening to reduce the number of days they appear on the show when the new series starts in autumn unless they are given more say on the panel.

A source told the Mirror: “All the girls were pretty peeved about the way in which Kate and Zoe were handed their notices. The women are, and were, a tight-knit bunch. They didn’t feel changed needed to be done in such a dramatic fashion.” Carol Vorderman and former Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay are set to replace them, but the group is worried about the chemistry between them all.

The source added: “There is concern that, because they didn’t all screen-test together, the chemistry will not be completely right. Things are tense at the moment as no one feels their job is safe.”

Zoe, 41, previously revealed she was “shocked” at the speed of her sacking.

She said: “It was so sudden, so it’s a bit of a shock. Telly is always changing, but they didn’t see me as part of the future of the show. I have to accept it, it’s out of my hands.

“We were just given the reason that things had to change. With TV you understand things need to change.”

Joanna Lumley to star in Downton Abbey

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Joanna Lumley to appear in Downton Abbey

Joanna Lumley is to appear in Downton Abbey after badgering writer Julian Fellowes to give her a part in the hit drama series. The Absolutely Fabulous star is a huge fan of the ITV1 period drama and when she met the show’s creator she twisted his arm so she could get a role in it.

She said: “I can’t measure how much I want to be in it. But I have had a word with the writer and I put his arm behind his back – and I’m certain to be in one of the future series.”

The 65-year-old star admitted she was a latecomer to the show because she had been in America but as soon as she saw it, she was addicted.

Speaking at a dinner in honour of the show, in aid of medical emergencies charity Merlin, Joanna said: “I didn’t see it when it first came out because I was in the States. So I came back and sat down to watch all the episodes one after the other, like eating a box of chocolates.”

Downton Abbey returns to TV screens later this year.

Ex-Coronation Street star Johnny Briggs says the soap is no fun any more

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Johnny Briggs who played Mike Baldwin in Corrie

Johnny ‘used to be Mike Baldwin in Corrie’ Briggs has broken his 6-year long silence to chip in his two penn’orth to the current Corrie debate.

The 75-year old former Weatherfieldian (or is it Weatherfieldoldian), who left the soap in 2006, told the Daily Mirror: “There’s no laughter or humour. The Duckworths have gone, Hilda Ogden is gone, the comedy and drama is dead.

“People were once happy in the soap. There is no one in it I recognise now. I watched the 50th anniversary episode in December but could only stand five minutes before I flicked over to the golf. There is no fun in the show any more. The writers have lost their way by bringing in all these unknowns and trying to make it interesting by introducing different characters.”

He banged on: “I haven’t watched it recently so I don’t know about the new gay characters, but my philosophy is: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. It’s so sad to learn the ratings have gone down. It’s heartbreaking. It used to be a great show – it was an old friend to me. Now I can’t bring myself to watch, what a terrible shame.”

And just when you thought he was finished, he added: ‘I might have to come out of retirement to return to the Street. I would seriously consider going back if they paid me the right money. I was the J.R. Ewing of Weatherfield – and that’s what the show lacks, another great villain, a big star.”

Aye, that’s just what Corrie needs, Johnny, an ex star bringing their dead character back to life and returning to the street. Thanks for that.

Corrie might be having a couple of problems at the mo but at least try and be constructive with your criticism instead of complaining in an ill-informed manner about a programme you admit to not actually watching.
