Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden, judging The X-Factor
Dancer James Hobley and impressionist Les Gibson have made it through to the final of Britain’s Got Talent.
Liverpudlian impressionist Les – who mimicked BGT hosts Ant and Dec during his act – won the public vote to be put through to Saturday’s final. And Simon Cowell joked he could be set to take over from Dec in the showbiz world. “Ant and Les has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? As we know, that’s showbiz.”
Dancer James – who uses his passion to overcome autism – soared through to Saturday’s (04.06.11) grand finale by performing a show-stopping routine of pirouettes and plies to Leona Lewis’ hit track Happy. He beat bell ringers Aeolian Chimes by 3-1 in the judges vote. After Amanda put through Aeolian Chimes ahead of James Hobley, Simon was heard to remark that his vote represented a return to ‘Planet Earth’.
Meanwhile, TV mogul Simon has revealed he will introduce a wildcard act and put his favourite lucky loser through to this year’s final in a similar style to 2010′s The X Factor.
He explained: “This is the one thing I am allowed to do on the show this year. I hope it will be popular and it’s the right thing to do.”

As the BGT semi finals continue, the acts seem to becoming more and more obscure.
With the exception of Boyband New Bounce, which were branded “the ones to beat” by Simon Cowell and got themselves the public vote to the final, the other contestants took a walk onto the weird side.
Firstly there was keyboard player Jean Martyn, who with her bright coloured coat and inane smile made us think she was ready for the looney bin more than the final, but that didn’t stop all four judges putting her through over magician act Karen and David.
Amanda even compared the excitable musician to an energy drink, calling her “a can of red bull”.
Meanwhile, Britney Spears impersonator Lorna Bliss was booted off the programme after causing controversy by making it through to the semi-final, despite getting buzzed by judges three times in auditions.
Frankly we’re not sure why she bothered come back. Yes she may have looked like the pop princess but that voice really needs some work.
Then there was Up and Over it, the act that made dance with their hands. We wish we’d thought of an act like this for our five minutes of fame.
In fact their weirdness even beat the Circus of Horrors, a show with trapeze artists, bouncers and weird made up people.
We just want a bit of normality please.

It was a night of shock, surprise and glam frocks with TV’s elite turning up for the Television BAFTA awards.
The Only way is Essex caused a huge scene picking up the YouTube audience award, however, there was nothing award winning about the cast’s outfits. Amy Childs opted for an over the top gold and lace gypsy wedding style frock, which made her look more mismatched fairy rather than fashionable lady, while her co-stars Lydia Rose Bright and Lauren Goodgear added some Essex bling with their crystal encrusted frocks.
Over on the awards side Martin Freeman and Steve Coogan got rewards for their performances in Sherlock and The Trip, while The Cube also beat the X Factor to scoop the
award for Entertainment programme. The leading actor award went to Daniel Rigby, for Eric And Ernie, while Vicky McClure scooped the leading actress award for This Is England ’86.
Soaps got a look in too with the single drama award going to The Road to Coronation Street
while Eastenders got Continuing drama.
In the Drama series Sherlock scooped the award while Any Human Heart got the Drama serial. And there was a lovely moment when Sir Trevor McDonald received the Bafta fellowship, the well loved newsreader having a deserved moment in the limelight.
Over in the fashion stakes, leading the black dress crowd was Jessie Wallace who looked elegant in a 50s style frock, while Daisy Lowe also stood out with her crochet long frock. Cat Deeley also made an impression with a backless lace detail dress, while Alex Kingston played it simple with a strapless frock, which she accessorised with a turquoise necklace.
Elsewhere Sheridan Smith went for on-trend pink with a pale coloured fishtail frock, while Gillian Anderson went for a darker hue of this trend for her appearance.
See the gallery below for the red carpet looks.

The British Soap Awards may have taken place over the weekend but ITV has been slow on the uptake only airing them tonight at 8pm.
If you’re one of the few to miss all the media coverage over the last few days then here’s a little round up of what you can expect. Firstly the ceremony was held in Manchester for the first time. However, that didn’t help the soaps up North with EastEnders scooping a few awards.
Another reason why we love the British Soap Awards is there’s usually a chance for us to get a little bit critical and laugh about the garish red carpet fashions.
However, this year it seems the soap elite have wised up, with hardly a lady putting a high heeled foot wrong.
Leading the way was Hollyoaks’ starlet Jennifer Metcalfe who went for a Cheryl Colesque black backless pantsuit. She led the backless tone for the rest of her ‘Oaks cast with Jorgie Porter opting for this look with a green pantsuit, and Stephanie Waring going for a backless grey frock.
Over in the Corrie camp, we were disappointed by Michelle Keegan’s garish gold frock, however, Brooke Vincent’s lime green Lipsy frock, with her own customised beading saved the soap in terms of style.
We won’t ruin the rest too much or ITV won’t be getting those figures tonight. If you can’t wait till then see the gallery below for all the red carpet style.

It was head in hands time last night as Jedward wormed their way into the Eurovision Song Contest final.
The Grimes Twins who shot to fame in the 2009 series of ‘The X Factor’ – have reached the final of the annual singing event, which will take place at the Düsseldorf Arena in Germany tomorrow, after wowing crowds with their ‘Lipstick’ hit in last night’s semi-final – those glutton for punishment can see their entry here.
Meanwhile, if the 19-year-old twin singing sensation win the competition, they could be set to play for US president Barack Obama when he visits their native Ireland.
The pair – who were famously disliked on ‘The X Factor’ by former head judge Simon Cowell – are second favourites to win Eurovision, and are excited about the prospect of playing in front of the political leader.
John told The Sun newspaper: “If we win Eurovision and get to perform for Obama that would be the ultimate, he’s even bigger than Simon Cowell!”
Jedward and Ireland are among 25 other countries vying for first place in the competition, with Blue representing the UK.
Of course this isn’t the first time weird and wacky bands have made it through to the equally weird contest.
We’ve seen transexuals, Katie Price and also a range of cringe worthy bands.
Here’s our gallery of the most memorable acts.

Oh dear, it seems there’s going to be many broken hearts if House’s Hugh Laurie is telling the truth.
According to the actor, there’s bad news ahead with predictions that the show could be over at the end of season eight.
The star who has won many awards for his role as the pain killer addicted medical maverick, told the Radio Times that, “the end of that season [eight], right now, looks like the end of the show.”
Quickly calculating, that means we’ve only got two more series left of the show – the seventh series is about to end in the US.
And if it were to go further it seems that Hugh who is the highest earning TV star with a salary of around £256,000 per episode, may not bag another series telling the Radio Times: “Well, that’s as far as they got me for.”
To lighten the mood, we’ve put together a mini gallery of the star, which we aren’t afraid to admit might be one more for the ladies.

Simon Cowell said that this years Britain’s Got Talent was “better than ever” and for once we’re inclined to agree.
Over the past four weeks we’ve seen a number of amazing acts from dogs to very young children, which have blown away Amanda Holden and new judges David Hasslehoff and comedian Michael Mcintyre.
However, if we have one criticism of the show so far, it’s that there’s none of those really bad acts. It could just be because there is far too much talent, or that producers are going through a new change. An example of this was clearly shown this week when we were just given an hour of pure talent. Kicking off the long list was gymnast Valerie whose flexible nature and of course er, talent had the Hoff all hot under the collar. The same could be said about girls, Girls Roc, whose skimpy outfits and and suggestive moves were almost too much for the Baywatch star.
Then there was New Bounce, who proved that despite appearances they weren’t the new Jacksons after a terrible song. However, after being given a second song choice by Amanda the boys did well. Another surprise came in the form of Robert wh looked all masculine but there was nothing laddish about his high feminine voice.
However, our top three of the night were clear. Artist Nathan’s artistic Marmite and toast picture of judge Micheal showed that you didn’t have to be a dancer or singer to have talent, while autistic school boy James moved the judges, and I, to tears with his stunning performance. Also making it into our top three was Michael.
Although not technically British – he was from France and wasn’t too good with English – the dancer blew us away with his popping dance moves. By far my favourite of the night.

Simon Cowell: BGT is better than ever
TV and music mogul Simon Cowell thinks Britain’s Got Talent is better than ever, despite ratings having slumped to their lowest levels since the series was launched in 2007.
The 51-year-old music mogul jumped to the defence of the ITV1 talent show, claiming more viewers are tuning in to watch the “fantastic” ‘BGT’ as the weeks go on.
He said: “We’ve got to get out of the habit of being so gloomy. The fact is, people are enjoying it. I think it’s fantastic. Ratings peaked last year at 11.8million and this week it was 11.4million. If you’d told me a year later we’d be getting these numbers, who says that would be bad news?
“It’s creeping up. It went up week on week. You’ve just got to keep making good TV. The public aren’t stupid. They like the show. I know this is a good show. I think the talent is better this year than last year. I’m happy with it and really looking forward to the semi-finals.”
Simon – who will be returning to the ‘BGT’ judging panel alongside Amanda Holden, David Hasselhoff and Michael McIntyre for the live finals of the competition – revealed he has been “keeping his distance” from the show so he can judge contestants fairly.
He added: “I’m going to walk into the live shows on the night and try to judge it fairly. I’m keeping my distance because I think it’s only fair. I’m not going to see any rehearsals.”
Certainly last week’s show was great, especially 12 year old singer Ronan Parke who stole the show with his absolutely stunning performance of Nina Simone’s classic Feeling Good. You can see him here.
Click on the gallery below for some of last week’s contestants – including a bloke who took off several pairs of underpants and used them to smear paint on a canvas. Nice act.

It’s not everyday that we get excited about a TV star but Ruth Jones is a starlet that gives us that warm fuzzy feeling.
Not only has this talented actress penned and starred in the 21st century’s most famous sitcom – Gavin and Stacey if you’ve been asleep for a few years – but she’s also shown that you don’t have to be a stick insect to be successful in the world of television.
In fact it’s her curves that have made the nation fall in love with her and her character Nessa.
Away from Gavin and Stacey, Ruth has successfully appeared on the likes of Would I lie to you, as well as a host of other comedy game shows. She’s also a regular alongside James Cordon on charity event sketches and although it would be unfair to draw comparisons, her style and sketch show contributions remind us very much of Dawn French.
To celebrate the starlet’s success we’ve put together a mini gallery.

It’s time again for the Philips BAFTA TV awards nominations and it seems C4 is doing rather well for itself.
E4 drama Misfits has received more nominations than any other programme in the shortlist – four in total, in the Best Drama Series, Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Robert Sheehan and Lauren Socha) and New Media categories.
In the Features and Factual Series categories Channel 4 dominated proceedings, receiving half of the nominations for each, and in the Single Documentary category two out of the four nominations went to films from the More4 True Stories Strand.
Both David Mitchell (Peep Show) and James Buckley (The Inbetweeners) were nominated for Male Performance in a comedy programme, and Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd) was nominated for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme. Facejacker and Peep Show were nominated respectively in the Comedy Programme, and Situation Comedy categories.
However, the BEEB is also doing well. Firstly Jessie Wallace has been nominated but not for her role in Eastenders. The actress, who plays feisty Kat Moon in the BBC soap, swapped her loyalties last year to take a role about the soap’s arch rival. But she wasn’t actually in Corrie – she was starring in the BBC docudrama The Road to Coronation Street. It is her part portraying Corrie legend Pat Phoenix that has won her the Best Supporting Actress nod.
Matt Smith is also flying the flag for the Beeb. The Doctor Who actor who is now in his second series of playing the Timelord – has been nominated in the Leading Actor category of the Philips TV Bafta awards for his role in the hit BBC sci-fi drama Doctor Who.
Smith faces stiff competition from Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch, Any Human Heart actor Jim Broadbent and Daniel Rigby for his role in Eric and Ernie.
None of the previous Doctors – including David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston and Sylvester McCoy – have ever been awarded the same recognition.
The Philips British Academy Television Awards will be held on May 22.
See the gallery below for a few of the nominees.

We thought we’d said goodbye to Big Brother and its wacky contestants but it seems when the house closed its doors last year, noone knew what the future would hold.
The “future” is that the TV show has come back from the ashes thanks to Channel 5 deciding to revive the reality show, and it’s all happening this year with a celebrity version followed by a wacky reality one.
The deal with Big Brother creators and production company, Endemol UK, will see Channel 5 hold the exclusive rights to the series in a two year deal.
Big Brother is one of the world’s most successful television brands having had 19 series aired across 81 territories in 2010 and its global popularity shows no sign of abating.
With this news we decided that it was only right we put together our top five Big Brother contestants. See the gallery below and tell us who your favourite is.

Michelle Keegan says she’d have no problem if her ‘Coronation Street’ alter-ego became a lesbian.
The stunning actress plays feisty Tina McIntyre in the ITV1 soap and while she is currently dating Graeme Proctor – who is set to marry Chinese immigrant Xin Chiang to help her stay in the country in a scheme organised by Tina – she wouldn’t be adverse to the brunette bombshell getting into a relationship with another woman.
When asked if she handle it if her character came out as being gay, as Sophie Webster and Sian Powers did, Michelle replied: “If the storyline required it, then you just do it. Everyone is so close on set and all the cast get on really well, so it wouldn’t be a problem. It would definitely be a different side to Tina!”
While she loves her character, Michelle isn’t impressed with Tina’s plan with Graeme and Xin as she knows it will have great implications for their relationship.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Tina thought she’d come up with a really good plan but it’s sort of backfired. I don’t think she realises how serious the situation is and it starts to affect her relationship with Graeme.”
The 23-year-old beauty also revealed how much she will miss Craig Gazey, who plays Graeme, when she leaves the soap later this year.
She said: “Craig’s leaving in about two months, which is really sad, but I think it will only hit me when he’s filming his last scenes.
“I’m close to all of my on-screen boyfriends – Jack Shepherd, Ryan Thomas and Craig. We’re all really good mates. When you work with a person day in and day out, you become close.”

Despite Lily Allen telling the world and its dog that her documentary was “rubbish” and advising them not to watch it, many of us have done the opposite.
And last night’s Riches To Rags, which follows Lily Allen as she tries to establish a vintage clothes shop with her sister, start a family with her boyfriend and of course, try to shake off all that ‘unwanted press attention’, ended on a very sad note.
Over the past few weeks we’ve watched as Lily takes offence to her sister taking over in the running of vintage store Lucy in Disguise, played with her dog and gone to various events.
We’ve also watched her suffer morning sickness and have to take time off because at the time of filming she was pregnant. Of course we’ve been watching the series in fear because we know what happens, and we really hoped the show’s producers dealt with it in the sympathetic way it deserved. And we were pleasantly surprised as when the scenes finally hit Lily was strong. In fact she and her sister sat and discussed the tragedy in depth.
Not only did this show Lily in a new light but also put paid to our views that Lily wasn’t just a one dimensional celebrity.

Last week we bought you all the joys of Eastenders weddings with a round up of our top five. However, we couldn’t give a mention to the likes of Phil, Grant and Rickaaay, without also giving a mention to Corrie’s weddings.
First up is Gail Platt who hasn’t had much like when it comes to the other sex and confetti. Her first hubby Brian Tilsley was murdered and her marriage to second husband Martin Platt ended following his infidelity.Lets hope its fifth time lucky with Joe McIntyre.
Also unlucky in love – or just unsettled – was Mike Baldwin, who reigned as the street’s Romeo for longer than we can remember. As a result he married more than a few times.
Susan Barlow was divorced as was Jackie Ingram and Alma Sedgewick. Mike’s fourth marriage was to scheming Linda Sykes who’d been bedding his son Mark Redman behind his back. Obviously the marriage didn’t last.
After being stung by Raquel Wolstenhulme, Curly walked down the aisle again with police officer Emma Taylor, which Nick Tilsley he began dating Leanne Battersby and the couple eloped for their wedding.
See our top five below.

With the “will they won’t they” question on everyone’s lips when it comes to Shirley and Phil who are due to get married this week, Ian’s proposal to Jane and Tanya’s wedding to Greg the Minute Mart must be running low on confetti.
But as we all know there’s always a hitch before it comes to the big day. In Shirley and Phil’s case it’s that he slept with Glenda and in Ian’s case erm, it’s that he slept with Glenda. Although we don’t know what will happen with Greg and Tanya – will Greg go and find Glenda and sleep with her too? we know there will obviously be a drama.
We’ve therefore picked out our top five weddings, which include all the drama, debauchery and deaths that are involved in an Eastenders wedding. See the gallery below for pics and why we chose these.
