People love the stuff Joss Whedon does for telly. They loved Buffy to the point of squirting, they loved Firefly even though it wasn’t on for very long, and they really liked his online sci-fi musical weirdoid Dr Horrible. So it’s perfectly acceptable to assume that many, many people would have been looking forward to this very, very much. But even if the delectable Eliza Dushku was onboard to play the lead, Dollhouse has had a rocky road through production and onto our screens. So, after all the hype and the troubles, was it any good?

The general consensus Stateside was that Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse started off a bit rubbish but got pretty good as the series went on. Whatever. It’s just nice to have it here on these shores, so thanks Scifi. There’s a trail over the jump, which should tell you all you need to know about Eliza Dushku’s Echo and what she’s up to her neck in. It makes its debut on Scifi, tomorrow night (Tuesday 19 May) and 9pm.

SciFi snaps up Dollhouse and Knight Rider

I’ve been trying to keep everyone up to date with the whole Dollhouse thing. It’s the Joss Whedon-penned series that sees Eliza Dushku play some sort of malleable doll person who gets hired for loads of different jobs. It didn’t have the strongest start in the US, but, by all accounts, has settled down a bit now so it looks as though it could have a future. It certainly has an immediate future in the UK, because someone, thankfully, has signed the series up. But who?

Joss Whedon + Eliza Dushku = much fuego. Right? Maybe. The much-anticipated new series, Dollhouse, hit US screens last week and the pairing of these two talents. For the record, the official website describes it thusly: “Echo (Dushku) is an ‘Active’, a member of a highly illegal and underground group of individuals who have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas. Hired by the wealthy, powerful and connected, the Actives don’t just perform their hired roles, they wholly become – with mind, personality and physiology – whomever the client wants or needs them to be.” Sounds intriguing, let’s see what the critics said.

When I was doing that whole Ola Jordan watch during the last series of Strictly, one of my writers called me Uncle Disgusting. Can you believe that? Me? Uncle Disgusting? Anyway, when in Rome and all that. Eliza Dushku is next on Uncle Disgusting’s radar. The ex-True Calling lovely is about to star in the next Joss Whedon series, Dollhouse, where she plays this sort of human clone type person, whose brain can be programmed with specific knowledge for any covert mission her paymasters send her on. Eliza, bless her, has taken it upon herself to advertise the series’ imminent premiere by posing for some saucy snaps. Click on the image below to have a closer look.

Dollhouse production shuts down for two weeks

While I was hunting around for Fringe news, I saw on Zap2It that production has stopped for two weeks on Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse. I’m taking special interest in this show not because it looks particularly special (although it does look fun) but because Eliza Dushku looks really nice. Is that a bad thing to say? To get back to being objective again, it is a Joss Whedon thing, so many many people will be interested in for all kinds of reasons. But anyway. A few days ago we discussed that fact that 24′s production had been halted to iron out a few creative kinks, and now Dollhouse has done the same.

I don’t think I’ve heard a barmier story all week. But when you look at it a bit closer, it sort of makes perfect sense. Here’s the story. Dollhouse is a brand-new show that will make its debut on the Fox later on this autumn. It stars Eliza Dushku and is written by Buffy and Firefly’s Joss Whedon. Eliza Dushku is quite cool and rather lovely. However, back to the show. Eliza’s character is part of a group of high-tech people who have had their brains re-wired so they can be imprinted with new personalities. This is quite handy because the sinister organisation that owns these ‘dolls’ (yes, there’s a sinister organisation) can hire them out and do all sorts of stuff. Like kill people. More on this story after the jump…
