TV stars of 2007 we would (or wouldn’t) like to catch under the mistletoe this Christmas

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Picking up where we left off, today I bring you the TV celebs at number three that we would or wouldn’t want to get stuck under the mistletoe with. Milo Ventimiglia and Bruce Forsyth made it to number four on our list, take a look at who we have today!

3.) Hayden Panettiere
Although her last name is harder to spell than most words in the dictionary, Hayden is without a doubt one of the biggest starts of 2007. We all love her as Claire, on Heroes, and last month we discovered that she more than just a pretty face. The infamous clip of Hayden paddling out to sea in Japan to try and save dolphins from those mean old fisherman was amazing, because firstly, can you imagine Lindsay Lohan doing that? And secondly, she’s SAVING DOLPHINS? Who doesn’t love dolphins?

Find out who we wouldn’t want to be a caught under the mistletoe with after the jump!

Christmas TV Survival Guide

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

christmasdaysurvival.jpgThere is no doubt that Christmas Day can be tough. On the surface, things look rosy… big pile of chocolates there… the waft of loads of food dancing around the house… a stack of unopened presents… booze… cigars… a whole day without work and getting it in the neck from your boss! It’s bliss! Stop. Right. There. Think about it.

Christmas day can be a long hard slog. You’re sleepy from too much food… Grandad has come round and, thanks to his deafness, is unable to hear his loud flatulence and shouting. Nana is hammered on three sherries and the room is covered in sweet wrappers and boxes which you will have to tidy. Fighting through the clouds of fart, you switch on the TV for a break from the madness… so what’s on?

Christmas classics: Top Of The Pops 1974

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Top Of The Pops used to be big. Really big. And an integral part of our Christmas Day entertainment. So we go back to 1974 pop pickers, for this clip – Jimmy Saville (who is just frankly weird), some interesting crowd dancing and some quality glam rock (yes, that means Slade). Come on!

Set The Video – Ballet Shoes, BBC One, Boxing Day, 8.30pm

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

balletshoes.pngBoxing Day is a week away, so maybe it’s a little early to be telling you to set the video, but if you’re anything like me you’re already excitedly planning your Christmas TV viewing (and arranging Christmas Day around Doctor Who, of course…) One of the programmes I’m particularly looking forward to is BBC One’s adaptation of Noel Streatfield’s most famous novel, Ballet Shoes (Boxing Day, 8.30pm).

It’s got a stellar cast list, that’s for sure. Those Harry Potter-loving kids who’ll be high as kites this Christmas will be excited to learn that Hermione’s in it (that’s Emma Watson), and adults will be looking out for Victoria Wood and Cranford‘s excellent Dame Eileen Atkins. Yasmin Paige, who hopefully you all followed in The Sarah-Jane Adventures, also features. It’s an old-fashioned tale of ambition and friendship, but one full of heart, and, I’d suggest, one that’s absolutely perfect for the family to settle down to on Boxing Day.

Christmas classics: Den serves Angie divorce papers on Christmas Day

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

The soaps have always brought us back down to Earth on Christmas Day. Sandwiched in between One Foot In The Grave, or Russ Abbott or even Only Fools, EastEnders, in particular, has been a doom monger par excellence over the years. But when you talk about classic Christmas TV, this is one of the very best clips – Den and Angie, and their marriage falling apart in front of lots of people. See, told you it was cheery.

Christmas Classics: Linus explains the meaning of Christmas

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

This morning Mof posted a clip of Charlie Brown and friends dancing around to Hey Ya, and pretty darn cool it is too. But it made me yearn for that moment when Linus makes a speech about the true meaning of Christmas – so here it is. You can hear a pin drop…

Ricky Gervais takes on Doctor Who in Extras Christmas Special

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

CA5SE59R.jpg

The eagerly-anticipated Extras Christmas Special looks to have more guest stars than the Royal Variety Performance. Judging by the trailer, we’ll see the likes of George Michael, Clive Owen and David Tennant. What we’ve seen of it, Extras will be one of the highlights of the Christmas season, and I can’t wait.

Now The Sun tells us some more, in-detail plot twists. Apparently, after Andy Millman quits his sitcom role, his agent Darren (Stephen Merchant) can only get him a part in Doctor Who as a giant slug (see quite amusing picture). Millman’s character’s fate is sealed when the Doctor throws salt over him. Humiliated, Millman sacks Darren. Aaww, poor Darren. He managed to sort out an audience with Robert De Niro for Andy in the last series, and now this is the thanks that he gets. Still, should make for very fine Christmas comedy. Look out for it next week!

Fave TV Moments of 2007: John Beresford

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

witw_bbc.jpgIt’s been a mixed year on the telly all things considered, but it started well. Way back on New Year’s Day 2007 we had a real treat in the shape of a new adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s children’s classic The Wind in the Willows from the BBC. This set the bar for the whole year, which has been well stocked with glorious adaptations from Jekyll to the most recent: Cranford, and which is about to be filled up to the brim with Christmas offerings like The Old Curiosity Shop and The Shadow in the North.

Many of our favourite series put in a welcome return, but sadly some of them weren’t up to the high standards of previous years. Similarly there were great new shows, and some turkeys that hung around way past Christmas. But of all the television events of this year there is one show that stands out in my mind head and shoulders above the rest and no, it’s not the TV Scoop #1 show of the year (although that’s up there with the best of the rest).

Fonejacker Christmas message. Cheers then!

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Fonejacker isn’t one of TV Scoop’s favourites, it has to be said. But plenty of people out there love it, and the Fonejacker people have sent us this little, special Christmas message. Enjoy!

Christmas Classics: The Snowman

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

No real words needed, except I don’t mind admitting that I regress into a small child when I watch this, even with Aled Jones’s pre-pubescent warblings. The Snowman has got Christmas written all over it (well, it has The Snowman written on it, but you know what I mean). Enjoy.

If only every office Christmas party was like Chuck Brown’s…

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

A Charlie Brown Christmas is a stone-cold yuletide classic. Now, some clever sort has cut ‘n’ edited up the show and mixed it with Outkast’s ‘Hey Ya!’ to make it look like the greatest ever office Christmas shindig ever! Note the dance moves of the lad in the orange top… I wanna dance like him!

TV stars of 2007 we would (or wouldn’t) like to catch under the mistletoe this Christmas

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Yesterday we revealed that Jeremy Clarkson was the fifth TV star on our list that we both would and wouldn’t like to catch under the mistletoe. What a bombshell! (Sorry, I couldn’t help it.) However, take a look at who we’ve got today! And I promise, they’re not the same person!

milo_v%20copy.jpg4.) Milo Ventimiglia
Whether he’s playing the hot, book reading, school skipping rebel, Jess, on Gilmore Girls or the hot, power absorbing super hero named Peter Patrelli on Heroes, Milo is one of the hottest actors to ever grace the boob tube. (And my walls when I was in high school…) I can’t really think of anything that I would want to talk to Milo about other than what it’s like to be that hot, and what it’s like to pretend to have super powers for a living – but I’m sure I would think of something. OH! I know. I could ask him what it’s like to be a lacto-vegetarian! That’s something…

Christmas classics: Eric Morecambe and Andre Previn

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

One of the all-time classic Christmas sketches, Eric and Ernie were light entertainment royalty already when they invited conductor Andre Previn onto their show in the early Seventies.

It’s simple – they invite someone with a straight-laced reputation, and let Eric rip it out of them. Truly, they don’t make them like they used to.

TV Scoop’s Top 10 Christmas Movies

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

top10.jpgIt’s that time of year isn’t it? Do I mean the time of year when you think of your top ten “things” of all time? Do I mean Christmas? Do I mean the time when you most want to settle back and watch a great movie? No! I mean ALL of them!

I’ve been picking out good movies(*) for you for a while now, so I thought why not get into the swing of things and think about the best Christmas movies ever? It’s a big field, and it can be a little predictable, but if I promise not to have It’s A Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, or White Christmas in the Number 1 spot, will you humour me? I’ve been a little more scientific than that and the results might be quite a surprise.

TV stars of 2007 we would (or wouldn’t) like to catch under the mistletoe this Christmas

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Last Friday we left you with the TV stars at number six on our list that we’d love to have a moment or two under the mistletoe with. As always, I know you were probably dreaming about who on earth we had on our list today, so I suppose it would rude of me to babble on much longer and list off a bunch of teasers about who we have at number five, as clearly, you can already see their photo.

jer_clarkson.jpg5.) Jeremy Clarkson
While he’s not my favorite lad on Top Gear, something still must be said for Jeremy Clarkson. The ladies in my office absolutely adore him, and I’ve heard a first hand story of someone who once waited on him at a restaurant and he was apparently positively lovely. If that’s not enough to make you want to get snuggly with the big JC (not Jesus Christ…or that guy from NSync), Jeremy CRIED at the end of the 24hour car race they did in one of the most recent episodes of Top Gear. If I recall correctly, he teared up and said, “This is EPIC!”

Nostalgia Corner: BBC Christmas Idents 1980-2006

Monday, December 17th, 2007

How impressive is this? BBC Christmas idents from every year between 1980 and 2006. There are some absolute crackers hidden in these two YouTube videos, and you’ll be surprised by how many you remember. Huge kudos to video creator “bdavebaldwin”.

Christmas classics: Ebenezer Blackadder turns bad

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Once upon a time, British sitcoms were really funny. They outnumbered sketch shows by 4,000:1. At the top of the heap in this golden age of the sitcom was Blackadder. Fantastically funny, Rowan Atkinson at the height of his powers and Richard Curtis and Ben Elton writing funny stuff that wasn’t coated in seven layers of marzipan and a patina of sugar, Blackadder spanned four generations and set new benchmarks in sitcommery.

Blackadder’s Christmas Carol – first shown in 1988 – was based on the old Dickens tale, and showed Ebenezer Blackadder in most a unusual mood – he’s good as gold, pillar of the community and gives all he has to the needy. Consequently, he hasn’t got a penny to his name. That is until the Ghost of Christmas pays him a visit on Christmas Eve and he sees his ancestors in all their evil glory and what would happen if he became a bad person. Enjoy!

TV stars of 2007 we would (or wouldn’t) like to catch under the mistletoe this Christmas

Friday, December 14th, 2007

The time has come to announce our the TV celebs that are 6th on our list of folks that we would/wouldn’t want to catch under the mistletoe. Yesterday we revealed the ladies at number seven, Billie Piper and Dr.Gillian McKeith, and today, well, take a look!

matt_fox.jpg6.) Matthew Fox

Oh, Dr.Jack, what can I say? I loved you in season one, and season two, and even though we had a slight falling out in season three when you starting like that Others girl, I still heart you, Jack. While I get the feeling we may not have much to talk about, and that most girls may be wishing they were with Josh Holloway, I still would love to get stuck under the mistletoe with you. Even if it’s just to stare at you in person for a full 4 seconds whilst you desperately plan your escape.

TV stars of 2007 we would (or wouldn’t) like to catch under the mistletoe this Christmas

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Yesterday we revealed that Jamie Oliver and John McCririck were the eighth celebs on our list that we would or wouldn’t want to be caught under the mistletoe with. Today we reveal lucky number 7, and let me tell you, it’s a doozy.

billie_misteltoe.jpg7.) Billie Piper

Was this a predictable choice? Yes. Yes it was. However, I’m going to be very specific about which Billie Piper I mean. I know most of you would choose the Billie that had her left butt cheek hanging out on her album cover. Or perhaps even the svelte, whip-in-hand Billie that we’ve been seeing on those “My body is a big deal” bus stop promotions for her new show Secret Diary of a Call Girl. However, personally, I would like to spend some time with the Rose Tyler, Billie. There’s just something about her Union Jack T-shirts and scrunchies that seems really pleasant. And tame. And won’t make you pay for the kiss you just gave her.

Coming Soon: Billie Piper stars in The Shadow In The North

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

shadow_north.jpgThe Beeb will be starting Billie Piper Season soon. They’ve not gone official and actually called it that, but as we mentioned yesterday, pictures of her return to Doctor Who are beginning to emerge, and before that we’ll be treated to her return over the Christmas period in the second dramatisation of Philip Pullman’s Sally Lockhart adventures.

Following on from her success in last year’s Ruby In The Smoke, the second novel in the quartet has once again been adapted by BAFTA winner Adrian Hodges. Click through for a plot summary and broadcast details.
