Exciting double bill of X-Factor at the weekend. Still not sure about the new judges who, to me, really don’t have much to say. Among the usual rag bag of weirdos and sad deluded fools (surely some of these people must be paid actors) there was of course talent. Two acts stood out: Amelia Lily Oliver from Middlesborough and north Welsh barmaid Samantha Brookes.
Aged 16-year-old from Middlesbrough, Amelia wowed the panel with a rendition of Beverly Knight’s Little Piece Of My Heart. After her storming performance, judge Louis Walsh said: “It was big, it was bold, it was beautiful and I think a star is born.” Tulisa Contostavlos also heaped praise on Amelia. “People work their whole lives and take forever to get to that level that you’re at now,” she said.
“You’ve come on that stage so much older than your years. You performed like a 30 year old woman that has been perfecting her craft for years and years.”
31 year old barmaid Samantha Brookes also got a standing ovation for her rendition of Whitney Houston’s One Moment In Time while 23 year old Liverpool hairdresser Marcus Collins booked his place at Bootcamp singing Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.
