Dannii Minogue has been turned down for a role on The Voice. The Australian singer had been tipped for a judging job on the programme – which sees contestants perform without being seen by the panellists – after she left The X Factor but show insiders insist she is not a consideration for the job because she is too closely linked to their ITV1 rival.
A source at the BBC – who are close to buying the rights for the US show – told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Dannii is so associated with X Factor’ she wouldn’t be right for us.” The Voice has been a huge hit in America and BBC chiefs are hoping it can do the same for them – providing they get the panel right.
A BBC source said: “It is a really big hit in the US and we are looking to do our own version for next year.
“But the casting of judges is really important. It is all about getting the right people involved in order to make it work.”
The NBC show pulled in 10 million viewers in the US last week and features contestants judged purely on their voice as the panel – including Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and country artist Blake Shelton – sit with their backs to the wannabes.Join TVScoop on Facebook for exclusive competitions and gossip
