So Simon Cowell is down to just two acts after tonight’s X Factor: One Direction and Belle Amie. And Belle Amie’s future in the finals looks shaky after being cast into the bottom three, only avoiding being sent home after the sing-off.
Still I don’t suppose Mr Cowell will shed too many tears. The groups were always going to be the most tricky of the categories to ‘mentor’ (not as if they will have received too much of the impresario’s time).
And really there can be no complaints about the acts that were dismissed from tonight’s show. Storm has never really endeared himself to the voting public and his rendition of The Boss’ Born to Run was far from note perfect. And that’s before we start on his appearance.
As for Diva Fever. Well they were the camp joke act – the Wham! tribute band with one (slightly) talented and one prettier one who looked like he was there for the ride. Expect the one who can sing to announce his solo career any day soon.
So who is our money on to go all the way. The girls are clearly the more talented but Cher Lloyd and ‘Kat Weasel’ have got a terrible press and I think will be voted off soon. The other girls (Rebecca Ferguson, Treyc Cohen) are brilliant singers, but completely non-descript. Mary and Wagner are popular, but doubt whether they will go all the way.
Manufactured boy band, One Direction, would certainly be a safe choice – they do seem to be improving on a weekly basis whereas Aiden Grimshaw, who looked odds on favourite after last week’s on-the-money performance of Mad World, failed to really impress this week. For me, I think Paije Richardson and Matt Cardle (the housewives’ choice) currently look favourites because they can both sing well and, most importantly, will get the votes, but of course anything can happen over the next 10 weeks!
