Channel 4 commission new show featuring Charlie Brooker, David Mitchell and sadly, Jimmy Carr

Did you watch the Alternative Election Night on Channel 4? Well, it is to return to our screens as a regular show under the title 10 O’Clock Live. The good news is that it features Lauren Laverne, Charlie Brooker and David Mitchell. The bad news is that Jimmy Carr has been signed up as well.

Unsurprisingly, the show is going to take a look at the week’s event. Insert the words ‘irreverent’, ‘topical’, ‘funny’, and ‘meh’ throughout your thought processes on the matter in hand.

The show has been commissioned by the entertainment and comedy commissioning editor, Darren Smith, who says:

“The success of the Alternative Election Night proved that there is an appetite for a show that mixes comedy and the news agenda together in a way that produces genuine insight as well as laugh-out-loud moments.

“10 O’Clock Live will provide a fresh and unashamedly intelligent take on current affairs from a young perspective.”

Sadly, there’s already a small feeling of dread about the whole thing. Mainly, that’s because Jimmy Carr is involved… but more worryingly, David Mitchell is in very great danger of being omnipotent on our screens, although, that feeling may well vanish as soon as he starts one of his amusing rants.
