Did you see Only Fools and Horses spin-off, Rock & Chips? If you didn’t, it was to the classic sitcom was the Phantom Menace was to Star Wars. That’s a laboured way of telling you that it was a prequel and, rather surprisingly, it wasn’t too bad at all! Well, the BBC agreed and have put an order in for some more episodes.

The show attracted nearly 8 million viewers with a one-off episode in January, is to come back for two hour-long specials at Christmas 2010 and Easter 2011.

According to various reports, The Inbetweeners’ James Buckley will reprise his role as a young Del Boy Trotter. Don’t hold that against the show though because, away from The Inbetweeners, he’s actually a decent little actor, if destined to play wide-boys for the rest of his life.

A source said: “James is hot property at the moment. The Inbetweeners is getting incredible ratings and he is man of the moment. It’ll cap off a great year for the Essex boy.”

The first edition of Rock & Chips saw Nicholas Lyndhurst play the father of his Only Fools and Horses character Rodney Trotter.

It looks like the whole cast from the first show will be on-board, which is certainly good news. The BBC would do well to consider making this a full series.
