The one where Channel 4 drowns Friends in a canal

friends_cast_004.jpgPraise be! Television has finally answered one of my prayers! Friends has been dumped by Channel 4! That’s right! After a million years on our screens, Joey, Chandler, Phoebe, Ross, Rachel and Monica will no longer clutter up our screens! What an absolute joy this will be.

As someone who isn’t… nor has never been a fan of Friends, it thrills me to the marrow to know that from now on, endlessly re-runs of the show will no longer be lurking in the listings to bother me with “we were on a break!”, ‘Smelly Cat’ and “How you doin’?”

Repeats of the show will now be found on Comedy Central from October 2011.

“After 15 years, 10 hit series and 236 terrific episodes it’s time to say goodbye to old Friends and welcome new ones, in the form of more comedy, drama and entertainment from the US and UK,” says Gill Hay, the channel’s head of acquisitions.

Apparently, there are 236 episodes of Friends, but sometimes, it felt more like 2,363,920.

Of course, I’m not saying the show was rubbish or anything… it just wasn’t for me… but seriously, it was so omnipotent in the listings that sometimes I felt like I was extra in the show.

All Channel 4 have to do now is ditch Scrubs and I’ll be a happy bunny.

The only problem is what are they going to fill these slots with. More repeats of ‘Will & Grace’, Kirsty and Phil, or even ‘A place in the sun’. Or will they just turn all the 4 channels into music video repositorys ??

I was as happy as you when I sawe this news yesterday. Only this past weekend (when I saw that it had started ALL OVER AGAIN FROM THE BEGINNING) “when with they stop showing it?!!”

Just a shame its not till 2011.. and there are some idiots at comedy central who obviously think the world will end if looped repeats do not continue of this show until the end of time.
