446reggie_perrin-.jpgTackling a remake of one of the most loved British comedies of all time is a risky business. However, BBC One’s remake of Reggie Perrin starring Martin Clunes ended up getting begrudgingly half-decent reviews. As such, BBC One has announced today that production has commenced on the second series of the show.

The second series of Reggie Perrin will return to screens later this year and once again, Martin Clunes stars in the title role of the troubled everyman. He’ll be joined by Fay Ripley, Wendy Craig, Geoffrey Whitehead, Neil Stuke, Kerry Howard and Jim Howick.

Simon Nye, the writer behind Men Behaving Badly, and David Nobbs, the creator of the original Seventies show The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin, have joined forces once more to pen the next instalment of the popular sitcom.

Perrin will comprise of six 30-minute episodes and will be filmed in front of a live studio audience.

We find suburban sales executive Reggie Perrin has crept back from the brink with a new zest for his once monotonous life. But will Reggie’s ideas for a new way of life appeal to his wife Nicola (Ripley), who is already at breaking point?

As Reggie tries to slam the door on his old life, can he rid himself of those surreal flights of fancy? And could Reggie’s ideas really bring him the fulfilment he seeks?

Jay Hunt, Controller, BBC One, said: “Millions of BBC One viewers enjoyed following the trials and tribulations of Martin Clunes as Reggie Perrin in the last series.

“I am delighted the show will be returning to the channel.”

Cheryl Taylor, Controller, BBC Comedy Commissioning, added: “Reggie Perrin is a vibrant and much-anticipated addition to our comedy offering this year.

“The studio sitcom is a genre we are committed to developing and I’m delighted that we have inspirational writers such as Simon Nye and David Nobbs to help promote the cause.”
