The ‘who is the best character?’ question doesn’t really work with many TV shows. I mean, ask someone who their favourite Friends character is and it’ll be a reasonably short conversation because there’s about 10 people to choose from. However, ask it of The Simpsons and you could be there all day. Such is the depth of the show that it’s near impossible to get a satisfying answer… however, the official Simpsons’ comic has asked just that.
In a recent poll to mark the twentieth anniversary of The Simpsons, Bart Simpson has been named the nation’s favourite Simpsons character.
Simpsons Comics Brand Manager, Jo Browne said, “Picking up nearly half of all the votes cast, Bart was a clear winner – demonstrating the on-going popularity of Springfield’s anarchic first son with UK Simpsons fans.”
Bart? Top? How irritating is that? He’s not even the best member of his own family! This is a list compiled by simpletons or children. Here’s the list in full:
1 – Bart Simpson
2 – Homer Simpson
3 – Lisa
4 – Maggie
5 – Krusty the Clown
6 – Marge
7 – Mr Burns
8 – Ned Flanders
9 – Moe
10 – Santa’s Little Helper
What an astonishingly awful list. For a start, I can’t believe the Simpson family dog came ahead of Comic Book Guy? And Professor Frink? He’s better than a stoopid pooch. As for Bart landing the top gig… hell, I would’ve had Millhouse over him!
Krusty also features a little too highly for my liking, as he’s generally out-funnied by Smithers and Barney.
Of course, I know this is all conjecture and completely down to the taste of the viewer… but in this case, I think it’s fair to say that anyone who has Bart as their favourite Simpsons character should really be tied up in a cloth sack and thrown into a canal until they grow a thought or two.
