Thousands of mad dancing people got together up and down the country to perform for a panel of judges in the hope that they could take part in Sky1′s brand new dance contest Got To Dance. Edinburgh, Manchester and London played host to the giant Dance Dome where hopefuls came to wriggle and bop in front of Diversity lead choreographer Ashley Banjo, Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, and Coyote Ugly and West End star Adam Garcia. The lovely Davina McCall was on hand to cheer or cuddle those who succeeded and failed.
Davina commented: “I’ve always been into dancing, I love watching amazing dancers of any sort and through this programme I’ve found an even deeper respect for dance!”
Got To Dance, launching early January on Sky1 HD and Sky1, begins with three rounds of audition shows, charting the judges’ tour of the UK to unearth the raw dance talent the country has to offer.
Solo dancers, duos and troupes can all be seen giving it their all in an effort to get the coveted ‘gold star’ approval to see them through to the next round. 98 acts in total made the shortlist, and following the auditions the judges must deliberate over which 18 will make it through to the next stage.
The 18 acts will then take to the dancefloor before the judges again, this time live in front of the nation for three semi-finals. From each semi-final, the public will decide via phone vote which two acts will go through to the live final. In this 90-minute action-packed finale, the final six will then be whittled down to a final three, and then those three will battle it out to be crowned winner of GOT TO DANCE 2010.
