Television is a baffling, baffling world. People pitch all manner of brilliant ideas and get rejected constantly. Then, somehow, something so mindnumbingly awful gets commissioned that you convince yourself that Britain is a place devoid of any talent whatsoever. What’s brought this on? Well, pull up a seat and let me tell you…
Here, unedited (well, save for a few phone numbers and the like) is a press release that I’ve just got my hands on. Read it in full and then tell me that your will to live hasn’t been sapped. Here goes:
Sky1 HD has signed Liza Tarbuck (Extras, Linda Green) and former Fun Lovin’ Criminals’ frontman Huey Morgan to front Liza & Huey’s Pet Nation (10 x 60′) a brand new entertainment series for broadcast in early 2010. The series was commissioned by Clare Hollywood, Commissioning Editor, Entertainment, Sky1 HD, Sky1, 2 and 3, and will be produced by indie Twofour.
The brand new, prime-time entertainment format is an animal celebration that combines a combination of must-see home videos with sharp, funny and jaw droppingly extreme VT’s, studio-based strands and fantastic guests. It’s the mutt-see show for all animal lovers.
Hollywood commented: “Liza and Huey share an intellect, sharp wit, unique and genuine passion for both people and animals. The show promises to entertain audiences with a perfect blend of laughter and the extraordinary.”
Melanie Leach, Exec Producer for Twofour added: “Liza and Huey’s Pet Nation is intelligent and witty – we’re laughing with, but never at. The result is a sharp yet enlightening factual entertainment show for all the family.”
From heartfelt stories to amazing recoveries, talented animals to unruly pets, celebrity animal lovers and extreme owners, Liza & Huey’s Pet Nation is a one stop shop for rejoicing in everything we love about animals.
Liza & Huey’s Pet Nation will feature regular strands including everything from the light-hearted ‘Celebrity Pets Behaving Badly’, ‘Makeovers’ and ‘Pet Cam’, to the informative such as ‘Pet Specialist’ where a team of experts will look at alternative treatments and therapies for ailing pets.
Liza & Huey’s Pet Nation will be produced by Twofour for Sky1 HD and Sky1. The series was commissioned by Clare Hollywood and will be Exec Produced by Melanie Leach at Twofour. The series will be broadcast in Spring 2010.
Holy shitting hell. Is this what the human race has become?
