Next week sees something of a Victoria Wood fest on BBC Two. On Monday night, we get a huge chunk of the listings dedicated to her and her unique brand of keenly observed cutesy comedy. Of course, there’ll be those spitting feathers at all this, demanding something more edgy… but sometimes, you need the gentler stuff to keep you from turning into a clenched buttock of satire fury.

So, the Victoria Wood love-in starts with Victoria Wood: Seen on TV (BBC Two, Monday, 21 December, 8.30pm) which sees the comedian looking back at her gigantically successful television career. It’ll feature sketches, stand-up, the many characters and songs she’s created and interviews with Victoria and friends and fans, including Dawn French, Julie Walters and Sir Roger Moore.

Following that, we get Victoria Wood with All the Trimmings (BBC Two, Monday, 21 December, 10pm) which is, essentially, Wood’s Christmas Special. It’s the usual mix of pastiches, starring an impressive list of celebrities.

One to watch out for is a lampooning of a 50s big band show, a Dickensian saga and a documentary set aboard a cruise liner.

Cast includes Alan Rickman, Pete Postlethwaite and, of course, Julie Walters.
