1104299_bang_goes_the_theory.jpgThe Bang Goes the Theory team are, let's face it, an uncharismatic bunch. They talk to each other like they've never met and produce a show that looks like a misplaced CBBC programme. However, in Bang Goes the Theory - The Human Power Station (BBC One, Thursday, 3 December, 8pm), they're looking at something rather neat.

In an age where we're all completely soft and spoiled by electronic gadgets and the like, the Bang Goes the Theory team install the Collins family in a house disconnected from the national grid.

That's it. No plugs or squat.

Any power they need will be generated from a squad of cyclists pedalling stationary bikes attached to dynamos.

Weirdly, the Collins family are completely oblivious to this fact and work the pedallers to the point of death whilst they cheerily stick the kettle on a million times a day. 70 cyclists are needed to power an electric shower.

Of course, this idea will tire quickly, but it'll be a neat little show to watch and let your eyes glaze. Effectively, it'll be a mildly entertaining guilt trip.
