The last series of The Family (Channel 4, Wednesday, 4 November, 9pm) showed us life inside a misery prism. Sporadic laughter broke out between an endless volley of arguments and spats, leaving the viewer quietened via embarrassment. Now, the show is back and hopefully, willing to provide a bit more joy this time around.
This latest attempt at capturing family life promises to filled with more sunshine than the last. The eight-parter follows Sikh family the Grewals’ for, well, every single second of their waking day.
Possibly.
It’s TV, and it can’t be trusted.
Anyway, in the first show, we meet mum and dad, son Sunny and daughter-in-law Shay, who have had a civil ceremony and are building up to a traditional big wedding. However, she hasn’t spoken to her own mother in half a decade and is trying to patch things up.
This lot, from the trailers at least, seem like a jolly… and slightly barmy… bunch, which should make for decent enough TV. However, are we tiring of This Sort Of Thing?
