If you can find something from within yourself to stomach yet another programme about food without immediately self-harming your innards with household bleach, then you’ll be thrilled to know that this week sees another series of River Cottage (Channel 4, Thursday, 12 November, 8pm). While it’s perfectly reasonable to say that TV is overloaded with far too much food these days, it’s not fair to say that they’re all rubbish. They’re just mostly rubbish.

So Hugh is back to warm his cockles with a load of rustic grub, locally caught stuff and chickens reared on his head… as well as a series of painful puns.

Naturally, this will be filled with seasonal stuff, so imagine tips for all kinds of root vegetable things like pumpkins and… whatever else grows around now.

Thursday will see recipes for mushroom tart and pea and ham soup. We’ll also catch up with his Landshare campaign and be asked to grow our own.

It’s all very nice, but personally, I’m getting sick of all these foodery. I’ll be out eating Big Macs in some pointless protest.
