Sorry. You've just caught me wiping up my own drool. That's because there's brilliant news! Former Doctor Who (and generally the best actor on the planet) Christopher Eccleston is to play John Lennon in a new BBC Four drama. How great is that? The show will be called 'Lennon Naked', and is a one-off 90-minuter which looks at Lennon's life from 1967 to 1971.

The Guardian reports that the drama looks at the effects of Brian Epstein's death and the re-establishing contact with his long lost father Freddie, on Lennon.

It also covers the break up of his marriage to Cynthia and the infamous meeting of Yoko Ono.

Ono will be played by Naoko Mori (Torchwood, Absolutely Fabulous) and Epstein by Rory Kinnear. Other cast members includethe Cranford actor Claudie Blakley as Cynthia Lennon and Andrew Scott as Paul McCartney.

The BBC's controller of drama commissioning, Ben Stephenson, said: "Securing Christopher Eccleston to play John Lennon is further testament to the calibre of drama on BBC Four."

Richard Klein, controller of BBC Four, said : "BBC Four is the place where dramas look to explore that space between artists' public works and private lives, shedding light on the artistic process while offering intelligent entertainment."

It will air in 2010.
