Weird and unexpected TV hit, The World’s Strictest Parents (BBC Three, Thursday, 15 October, 9pm) returns this week. This is TV with its tail-between-its-knees. Like Brat Camp and the like, unruly British teenagers are sent abroad to be taught in the ways of righteousness. TV viewers are invited to tune in to laugh at them whilst they get torn a new one.

The preposterously named Bex and Chezden Dundee travel Stateside (Atlanta if you want specifics) to get some new parents as the ones they’ve currently got have clearly failed them.
The latter point may seem harsh… but if you’re willing to send your beloved children onto television as an example of rubbishness, then by the same token, they must accept that they’re sending a little bit of themselves out their too.
Anyway, these little dickheads must spend a week living under the rules of the God-fearing Kimbroughs, a strict southern Baptist family. The Kimbroughs prepare a rules contract for the teens’ stay that prohibits smoking, taking the Lord’s name and demands a B average in all schoolwork.
This will be horrible television… yet compulsive all the same.
