Whilst there is a clear absence of new comedic talent cracking TV’s veneer, the old guard keep popping back to try and cheer us up. I know we’re barely out of summer and thereby, it’s way too early to be mentioning Christmas… but in this case, it is warranted. Basically, the news is that come the Yule, twee comedy fave Victoria Wood will be returning to our screens with an hour-long special for BBC One.

According to the BBC Comedy blog “Victoria plans to provide a service for anyone too busy with the usual Christmas faff to watch the telly, by compressing a whole night’s viewing into one hour.”
The show has the working title of Victoria Wood’s Mid Life Christmas and will feature the highlights from The Mid-Life Olympics 2009, costume drama Lark Pies to Cranchesterford and the further adventures of soap star Bo Beaumont (played by Julie Walters, of course).
