Eastenders is to broadcast a live episode next year to celebrate its 25th anniversary. A first for the show and, for anyone who saw the live episode of ER, you’ll know how much fun they can be. Of course, with such a bold move, something big will need to happen in it too. This has seen the Beeb promising that the live show (which will air next February) will involve the “resolution of a big storyline”. They’re not letting on which storyline that will be of course (and naturally, it won’t stop us speculating).

The episode will broadcast from the Eastenders studio in Elstree on Friday 19 February and will mark the end of a week of shows celebrating the birthday of the show.
When rival show Coronation Street marked its anniversary in 2000, they went on air for a whole hour and had a cameo from Prince Charles. However, going live for 30 minutes seems a bit braver and considerably more inventive.
The Eastenders executive producer, Diederick Santer, told The Guardian: “It’s too early to discuss the exact storyline at this point, but viewers are assured that this live episode will bring them all the high drama and excitement they expect from EastEnders and then some.
“The episode will feature – amongst other things – the resolution to a big storyline which will keep the audience (as well as the cast and crew) guessing until the very last moment. Every time I think about this episode I get excited as well as a little nervous, but nonetheless we are all thrilled to be celebrating our 25 years on screen with a live episode. It’s a big test for every member of the production here, and hopefully a big treat for the audience.”
My money is on the story involving Ricky and Bianca. Failing that, someone will probably get run over like they always do on Albert Square (someone should install some speed bumps or something). Either way, it should be fun!
