First Look: New series of The Fixer

the fixer new.jpgIt’s almost beyond the realms of my imagination that, last year, one of my favourite dramas of the whole year was on ITV1. I mean, ITV1 is pretty much a withered hand amongst the jewellery. However, The Fixer was a preposterous success, with Cracker-style gritticism and savage violence. In Andrew Buchan, we have a new actor to keep an eye on while we mutter about how he’s destined for bigger things. The best news about it all is that ITV have seen sense and decided to commission another series… and there’s a sneak preview to watch too!

The show made its debut with an impressive 6.3 million viewers and with any luck, the second outing will do even better. For those that don’t know the gist of the programme, it stars Buchan as John Mercer who is a state sponsored assassin and the murky world in which he has found himself trapped.

It also stars Tamsin Outhwaite and Jody Latham as able backup. Yet vying for the crown of the show is Lenny, played by Peter Mullan, who is a moody, controlling nut-job with more charisma than a box full of Al Pacinos.

The new series will hit our screens on Tuesday 1 September at 9pm and the preview clip features a drug deal which gets interrupted. Of course, interrupted means people getting shot at and glaring at each other. It’s wonderful stuff and you can see it on The Guardian website by clicking these differently coloured words.
