Oh no! What the hell are Heat magazine going to talk about all summer? What are poor old Nuts going to do when looking for TV stars willing to go nipple-to-nipple in their pages? If you haven't heard, Big Brother has been given the chop by Channel 4. It's not altogether a surprise really. I mean, at the last count, only three people were watching. Bearing in mind that the show has a dozen camera operators, that's pretty bleak news. The show has long been in decline and viewing figures have steadily fallen since All That Race Business With Jade Goody and Shilpa Shetty. Along with Jade's death, something about the show died with her, with people coming to their own conclusions that, should you go through the mill of the show, chances are, you'll be forced to sell off your corpse to maintain your talentless fortune. Depressing, savage and somewhat true.

Channel 4 has announced, officially, that they will not renew Big Brother producer Endemol's deal for the reality show. The beleaguered will be put to bed next year after a Celebrity Big Brother, making BB10 the last 'true' Big Brother to be aired on British TV.
Of course, that's assuming no-one else takes up the slack. Despite the fact that the current show is down to an average of 2 million viewers, there will be TV execs out there who think they'll be able to revive the fortunes of the show and make a lot of money in doing so. Once upon a time, Big Brother would make £68million profit in a series. That's not to be sniffed at in an age where TV ad-revenue has fallen through the floor.
Hot favourites to take it on will invariably be ITV and Sky One, with the latter more likely to have the money to buy the rights from Endemol. If someone is mad enough to buy Big Brother, then learn from Channel 4's mistake. Namely, that sometimes, less really is more, so don't let the show drag on relentlessly for months at a time.
That said, I think most people will be rather pleased that, for the time being, Big Brother has gone away to die in a corner.
