Heroes to show Claire getting off with a girl (Or, Clutching At Straws With Lipstick Lesbianism)

hayden-panettiere1.jpgThe last series (or ‘season’ if you’re American or British and trying to be cool) of Heroes was a massive disappointment. As a show, it had gone from ambitious and confusing to barrel scraping, ab-flexing, thicko-action sci-fi. The next series had a fair amount riding on it. Such a departure left the show feeling like it was sat in it’s own urine with the commissioner’s axe swaying precariously overhead. So when the news came in of a potential storyline for the next batch, I was rather intrigued. Would we get a new, even badder baddie? Would the Petrelli sprout insect wings? No. Heroes looks like it’s going to stoop low and give lonely sci-fi nuts a cheap trouser shuffle. Ladies and Gentleman… when in trouble, get Claire (Hayden Panettiere) to get off with a girl.

The next volume of Heroes will be subtitled ‘Redemption’ and Claire is set to go to university. She’ll become the room-mate of Madeline Zima and Rachel Melvin. Do an internet search for them. They’re attractive obviously. All signs point toward the fact that these ladies will probably tap-off with each other and quite possibly shower together and all that bongo mag rubbish.

Of course, this is not a rant against people and their sexuality. Nor indeed is it a snipe about those who experiment when they get to college. It is though, pretty obvious that Heroes is looking for a cheap ratings spike if they gun for this storyline.

After the last outing, my expectations for the show pretty much vanished, which is a shame as I enjoyed the first two series a whole bunch. Having the ubiquitous ‘lesbian kiss’ seems a bit of a cheap shot from Tim Kring and Co.

What we have here is not a case of being let down… but rather, that horrible feeling of being proven right. Heroes went No Frills pretty quick and it wouldn’t surprise me if they go ahead with this storyline. Unfortunately for Heroes, there’s a good chance no-one will see it.
