I have a terrible confession to make. The other night I watched Big Brother. Yes, it seems like a terrible admission but it was late and there was nothing enticing on the BBC Channels and Five didn’t seem to be showing any of those ‘When Sharks Attack….Cops With Cameras’ type shows, so it seemed like the logical thing to do at the time. Yet I have never felt so ostracised in all my years of TV watching – or indeed felt I was the only one tuning in. As the show went on friends lined up to inform me they had given up on the show, they didn’t care about it, even asking me whether it was still actually on. Now, I know Big Brother isn’t been as big a small screen draw as it once was and that viewing figures have dropped, but – surely it’s not as unpopular as all that? The way the press and celebrity magazines are carrying on you’d think it was as huge as ever, but apparently not. Surely someone out there must still be watching? Apart from me when there is nothing else on?
In all honesty though if the public are finding this series dull, then surely they only have themselves to blame. The only editions I have seen in recent weeks are the nomination and eviction shows – and from what I can gather all the most interesting people in the house are gradually being voted out one by one. Sparky Sophia, catty Cairon and last week Angel, who was just plain bonkers and very entertaining – they have all been dumped back into the real world, leaving behind who, exactly? Dogface Sophie (yawn), wannabe WAG Karly (double yawn), nice but dull Charlie (snooze), Irish ‘I’m just here to stand around and look pretty’ lass ‘Noreen’ (zzzzzzzzzzzz), and Kris (oh hang on a sec, eye candy. But even so – snore……..)
This week it appears Halfwit is up for eviction yet again, fourth week in a row in fact (good grief, the man has more lives than a cat! Still reckon he is going to win at this rate), and this week he’s going head to head with Sree. Yup, the whiney bloke who can’t take the fact he has been rejected by ‘Noreen’. If you still care. It’s kinda fun watching him flounder though (and he has provided my favourite moment of the series so far, attempting to off the housemates with raw bacon sarnies) but given the way the voting has been going recently, chances are he’ll be shown the door tomorrow. So another interesting housemate gets the boot. Is this going to go on until all the more colourful characters have been dispatched and we only have pretty dullards left to look at? The fact that Channel 4 hasn’t sent in any new housemates yet suggests that the public may not be the only ones losing interest.
Of course it’s entirely the fault of the five or so people still watching if it’s boring since they keep voting out the people who make it passably interesting viewing, but it does seem a shame that producers did seem to make an effort to send in a few more interesting personalities this year and the vast majority of them have gone already. No wonder nobody’s watching.
Or are you? Are you still watching Big Brother and if so what do you think of it? Let us know your thoughts……

I’ve always been amazed (and not too chuffed) at how much Big Brother has been rammed down my throat over the years even though I wasn’t actually watching it.
It was on the radio, on the news, on every website, on bbc news!!! You just couldn’t escape it, even if you had no interest whatsoever.
But this year i’ve heard hardly anything about Big Brother. This is a good thing. Hopefully someone will take it as a sign and it will go away, and never bother me again.
