Springwatch Watch: You’d be an awfully silly bustard to miss it…

springwatch_2.jpgThe wholesome Kate Humble’s words, not mine, but I agree with the sentiment. Pensthorpe in Norfolk is looking especially lovely in the beautiful late-evening sun we’ve been treated to over the last couple of weeks, and the flora and fauna are putting on a great show for Chris, Kate, Simon and the Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen/James May hybrid.

Tonight we’ve had – breathe – barn owls (just out of shot, but still), wildlife we can spot when camping, the delights of the dawn chorus (the yellowhammer says “a little bit of bread and no cheese” apparently), a great bustard in full display (“it looks like a vicar in a tutu” says Chris), pond-dipping just like when you were a kid, bats, sky larks, foxes, badgers, water voles, a wood-mouse and Simon King shoving pens in his mouth to show how dippers dip. And it warms my heart to see it all.

If you want catch something that you won’t get on your tellybox, however, take a look at the post-show show Springwatch Unsprung right here…
