ITV confirms the inevitable and cans Demons

This has to be the least surprising news since we learnt there was a new romance in the Big Brother house. Demons, the much maligned ITV1 series, has been canned by the channel because, erm, it was rubbish. It had obviously spent a massive amount on it and had high hopes for it, but it forgot the crucial basics – a script and some decent actors (Philip Glenister and Zoe Tapper aside). More details after the jump…

OK, so Demons was pretty awful. It didn’t quite know what it wanted to be for a start and, despite some really lovely-looking production design, the story, the action, the action and, especially, the script, was all very much sub-standard.

And there was Philip Glensiter’s inexplicable accent.

So Demons, in the wake of Primeval’s cancellation, is also kicked into touch. No surprises really, but there were some late twists and dramatic attempts to resuscitate the show.

According to the Media Guardian, the series makers, Sony, held last ditch talks with the Sci Fi channel in the US about co-funding it and therefore enabling it to return to ITV1. This now looks highly unlikely.

ITV is said to be concentrating on post-watershed dramas. But you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be filling the void with all kinds of reality and shock docs.

If this was as awful as ‘Primeval’ is, I an so happy it’s not coming here. It’ll be a sad year for some US viewers: BBC-A will be airing ‘Doctor Who’ this year instead of Sci-Fi.
