Ascot is one of the events where people not only go to get battered on champagne and wear fancy hats, but also where casual horse racing fans tune into their telly boxes and enjoy the pomp and ceremony vicariously. The whole Ascot racing fest is on the BBC, but I have to say, not being neither a casual nor, erm, a smart racing fan, the nearest I’ll get to the Ascot experience is sitting in my living room wearing a manky baseball cap and drinking warm lager. But, if you do tune into the racing today (BBC One, Thursday 18 June, 1.45pm), chances are you will see the most ridiculous thing you will have seen for a very long time – the world’s first edible hat. Don’t believe me, have a look after the jump. It has to be seen to be believed.
I mean… it beggars belief doesn’t. I’m reliably informed that wearing a hat takes skill and can enhance one’s head if worn correctly. And millinery, that has to be a skill right?
But I’m afraid all that skill, poise and hat-wearing tradition has been tossed into the mire with ad person’s idea of fun. I know, I know, it’s only meant as a bit of fun… but this Cadbury’s Flake hat is beyond daft.
