The week before last I posted up the list of celebrities taking part in this year’s Who Do You Think You Are? Call me quite sad and dull if you will but I actually look forward to this announcement every year, because I think WDYTYA? is quite an important show. It serves a dual purpose – it has the drama of a personal detective story, as well as massive chunks of ‘living history’, stuff that’s really interesting and what people can still identify with. I’m not that keen on the Davina. She shouts too much, has a really obvious false laugh and is just generally annoying. However, when she’s being normal AND NOT SHOUTING FOR NO PARTICULAR REASON she seems quite a nice young lady, so I’m looking forward to seeing what she dredges up in her searches.

Apparently this is what’s going to happen. As a child of divorced parents, Davina, who is half-French, was brought up by her paternal grandmother in England and knows very little about her maternal French heritage. She also wants to find out if there is any truth behind the story that has been passed down for generations that claims that the English side of her family is decended illegitimately from royal blood.

Yikes! And that’s just the start. Remember how Boris Johnson found out he was a relative, albeit a massively distant one, of the biggest royal family in Europe? Could this be something similar?

The series starts on Wednesday 22 July on BBC One.
