It's amazing what TV people will do to pay the mortgage, and it's safe to assume that Alexander Armstrong has a MASSIVE mortgage judging by the amount of comedy panel shows he has or is presented/presenting. I saw him the other night, post-ITV1 news doing this awful thing called Don't Call Me Stupid. I've also seen him live hosting When Were We Funniest? for G.O.L.D. and, of course, everyone knows him for lending his rich, fruity tones to Have I Got News For You. So there's no question that AA is King Of All Panel Show Hosting, and to be fair he's really very good at doing them, and now he's signed up to do another one.
Pointless is the name of his new show and it'll be launching this summer in the daytime schedule.
The show sees five pairs of contestants compete for a cash prize - by winning the fewest points. Every question on Pointless has been asked to a panel of 100 people before the show, to find out the most obvious and the most obscure answers. The contestants are fighting their natural instincts, aiming to get the fewest points possible by finding the least obvious correct answer for each question. The holy grail are the pointless answers - answers that none of the 100 polled thought of. These add money to the prize jackpot and contestants can win the lot in a thrilling end game.
So there you go. Mortgage sorted for a while, family holidays to the Côte d'Azur in the bag and fine dining every night of the week also ticked off. But is there a danger that AA's first career, or day job if you like, a comedian, might be put in the shade?
