Dexter and Miguel sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G. They are now officially buddies. Miguel knows what Dexter did to Ethan Turner, Dexter knows that Miguel knows. But they’re fishing, they buddies and Miguel actually likes what Dexter is doing. So much so that Miguel wishes he could do what Dexter does. He sees what Dexter is and together, he stated in this episode, they could make a real difference, ridding Miami of the bad guys. They are the new Batman and Robin. This can’t be right.

This series has been a bit muddled. There’s the Dexter/Prado friendship, there’s Debs and Quinn and the whole bent cop thing, there’s Laguerta and Miguel, there’s Rita and Dexter, and then there’s Angel and his new infatuation with the hooker that turned out to be an undercover cop.

There has been a lot going on, and the pace of lots of things going on did not abate in last night’s episode.

Debs’ latest witness ended up dead, skinned. Suddenly she was terrified that every witness she had spoken to in regards to the whereabouts of Freebo had now ended up skinned. Dexter, always seeing an opportunity, planted the Ramon seed in her head.

Dexter was also keen to test out his new chum’s commitment to the cause, so he presented Miguel with a potential new victim – an Aryan nutcase called Clemson Gault. He explained what this guy had done and asked Ramon for access to him (Gault was in prison). Miguel passed the test. He was up for it.

But Dexter is trying to push Miguel as far as he possibly can so he will eventually bail out and leave Dexter to working alone again. So he comes up with a suitably complicated and risky plan.

The night of the deed, Dexter is nervous. He as never worked with someone on a killing before and he was having some issues on whether he could trust Miguel implicitly. When things went wrong (Dexter picked up Clemson under the guise of someone who could get him out over the border) the police suddenly appeared, hinting that Prado had set up up. Not so. Prado drove by, picked up Dexter and Clemson and dropped them off so Dex could get to work.

Elsewhere, Debs and Quinn staked out Ramon, witnessing torture of a witness. They brought him in, much to the consternation of Laguerta. Debs was so taken by Quinn’s praise if her investigation she told him about the IA woman after him. I still think this could be a bad move in the future.

Phew. Things are getting more and more tangled by the episode. I’m just not sure about it though. You just know that the whole Dexter and Prado friendship won’t last (it’s just a matter of time, surely) and Quinn is surely the person behind all the skinning killings. At least that’s what I’m thinking. I just hope there are a few more twists to prove me wrong, otherwise it’ll be quite a wait until my hunches get proved right.
