This most recent series of Heroes (BBC Two, Monday, 11 May, 9pm) has been a real turkey. It’s gotten so dumb that it’s more akin to the usual sci-fi dross that we import from America, rather than the perplexing, fun ride of previous outings. Rather than feeling like a comic book like before, the latest outings seemed happy enough to run around the garden with its underpants on the outside of its trousers. However, that’s not to say we should all give up… because next week, we’ve got the big season ender in a twofer, surely set to stand a few hairs on end.

The first of the two episodes on Monday is called ‘I Am Sylar’, which will see our brilliant baddie continuing his partnership with that man with the sunken eyes and tiny head. However, as the title of the show alludes, he’s about to have an identity crisis… which we can only hope ends in a tortured bloodfest. Hiro and Ando meanwhile, continue to be Laurel and Hardy on a mission and Matt’s new-found fatherhood changes his priorities.
The second in the brace, ‘An Invisible Thread’ sees the close of the series and of course, Sylar features heavily once more (because, in essence, he IS the show), as do the Petrelli family.
Despite the cruddiness of the season thus far, this closer has shaped up to be a decent televisual event in its own right. You should tune in for epic scraps, brooding music, people’s heads getting cracked open and bloody great fireballs coming out of people’s arses. Or something. Should be good fun.
