As publicity stunts go this is pretty massive. Syfy (as it's now known in the US) is describing this as just how important a TV show can be. But the cast and key crew of Battlestar Galactica crew holding court at the United Nations is surely a massive stunt and a massive stunt only. Quite cool though. In other BG news, the show is holding an auction. And you thought it was all over. Find out more after the jumpski.

So, the auction. Parent company, NBC, is teaming once again with Propworx to offer hundreds of items from the series in a live auction weekend, 8, 9, 10 May. This is the last chance that fans and collectors will have to own a piece of the show, which concluded last month. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit United Way.
Over 900 items will be included in this final auction including Lee Adama's bomber jacket, which was worn in the Daybreak flashback scene, the painting that Kara "Starbuck" Thrace paints in her apartment on Caprica before the Cylon attacks, the Galactica Podium, Admiral Adama's desk chair, a full size Viper Mark II ship and a full size Blackbird Stealth ship. Two items that were very popular in the first auction, the red dress worn by Number Six and a Starbuck flight suit will also be offered in this auction. Go here to have a look.
Guaranteed to make fans' underpants a little bit sticky.
But back to the BG/UN thing. The biggest names behind the show - stars Edward Olmos, Mary McDonnell and EPs Ronald D. Moore and David Eick - sat on a panel in the Economic and Social Council Chamber with UN representatives to explore what the show had to say about world issues during its four-series run.
Moderator Whoopi Goldber led the panel through two hours of discussion that touched in race relations, terrorism, gender equality and a host of other issues.
Here's part one of the discussion, the rest are on the BG website.
I know that one of the show's strengths is its attention to political detail, and Syfy is certainly doing this for the right reasons, but how mad is this? Can you imagine a British equivalent doing a stunt like this in the House Of Commons? No, of course not.
