NEW10yearsyounger.jpgThe makeover show that’s had a makeover is back to clutter up our screens. Ladies and… well… it’s mostly ladies, it’s time for 10 Years Younger: The Challenge (Channel 4, Thursday, 5 February, 8pm). So what’s new? Well, hilariously, Nicky Hambleton-Jones got booted off the show (leaving her moaning about ‘age discrimination’) in favour of, who else, Myleene Klass. Not only that, the show itself has been changed to something, well, almost unrecognisable from the previous outing.

I still find it funny that Hambleton-Jones has been fired for someone (nearly) ten years younger. For someone who placed such importance on image and age, it’s brilliant that she should be beaten with her own rod. Sadly, it does mean even more Myleene Klass on our telly. If she gets one more show, I might start thinking that George Orwell was right when he wrote Nineteen Eighty Four, and that Klass is our Big Brother figure, ready to scald us for thoughtspeak.

Anyway, the show. Kathleen and Mary participate and instead of the usual hack ‘n’ slash job, we’re now getting a competitive edge. One of the two competitors will undergo cosmetic surgery and the like, while the other one will use ‘alternative’ treatments.

I assume that this is to promote a more natural beauty (or Myleene would look like a huge hypocrite eh? After appearing on Miss Naked Beauty) despite the fact that, regardless of treatment, both will benefit from a super-pampering at the hands of hairdressers, stylists and make-up spuds.

Despite the new cuddly version, it’s still as shallow as the fluid on a frog’s eye… and more to the point, will those that enjoyed the car-crash of previous episodes stick around for this new… fruit smoothie version?
