The Guardian/Observer are cheeky sods. Yesterday they quoted our Mof and some of your comments directly without credit (full article here) concerning a certain Ms Gail Trimble of Corpus Christi, Oxford. Such is life, such is the nature of the internet. One thing is clear though - Gail has become a bit of a phenomenon. Her fierce intellect, displayed throughout this series of University Challenge, has even rendered Paxo speechless on a few occasions. Now it's the final tonight (BBC Two, Monday 23 February, 8pm) and one question is on many peoples' lips - how many points will Gail win for her team tonight?

It's true to say that Gail has provoked a massive reaction on these pages. In the face of criticism, it has mostly been support in her favour and standing up for shining intellect in general. Whatever people may think, one thing has struck me - when I saw her in action for the first time last week, my first reaction was that of a genuine, massively-intelligent young woman who was actually a little bit shy.

We have to remember that she's a (gifted) student who has appeared on a student quiz show, and she certainly didn't ask for this kind of attention. But that's TV for you - whoever you are and whether you like or not, people are always going to have opinions about you.

So tonight's final. Can Gail continue her fine work and win pretty much singlehandedly? The article on The Guardian's website has calculated that she has won 825 of the team's total of 1,235 points. That's a pretty astonishing stat, so I'm wondering what her score will be tonight.

I'm guessing it'll be over 100 points. What do you think?

I'm sure they'll win, and that Gail will gain a shed load of points - but the more politics/humanities/literature questions there are, the better they'll do.

So they're happy to engage in some frightfully lazy journalism but they couldn't even throw you a link? Ferchrissakes.
